col g 0
i was at a bit of a loose end this afternoon so i decided to stick a few nets in my pocket ,get the dog and the ferrets and give my eldest lad a shout.a few hundred yards from me there is a cycle track and weve seen a few rabbits knocking about there while weve been going to my local patch.there is about five setts along the embankment and ive never really fancied ferreting them for some reason, but i fancied it today.all of he setts that are there are no bigger than five holes and in really easy cover.so i netted the first sett up and entered the ferret.she worked her way round but nothing appeared,so the ferret was rmoved ,took the nets off and away we went.the next sett was only a cople of yards away from the last.the dog was pretty eager at the entrance of one of the holes which in my eyes is a definate mark.i didnt bother netting the holes and just entered the ferret.the ferret wasnt down too long before re appearing.i didnt think this sett was going to produce either.anyways, the ferret turned tail and went back down,a few seconds later my son started shouting "dad.....da i can hear banging".at that he came running over and got a couple of nets out of my pocket.he just managed to get them on before the rabbit bolted.one of the nets he put on got caught up on some brambles and the rabbit was free........for about five seconds.the dog came out of knowhere and had it.our connor was over the moon as he saw this as his rabbit because of hin putting the nets on he hole it came from,so ive had to take another trophy shot for him.funnily enough this rabbit was only half grown .(pics to follow).i think it will be only a few month old by the looks of it.anyway ,we carried on and worked the rest of the sets but we got nothing out of them.so we got one for the father in laws hawk if nowt else and a big smile from our connor.cant wait to get on our permission and get some proper ferreting done Quote Link to post
