brassneck 128
Hello everyone . Ive been on the look out for a terrier type dog for a while , as company for my existing dog and possibly to work with ferrets in the future . Theres a litter of patterdale x SBT for sale in the local paper (sire SBT/dam patterdale) . Has any one on here come across one of these before ? I will be going to have a look at pups later on . I will try and get a pic . Edited January 10, 2009 by brassneck Quote Link to post

OldNog 432
in my opinion i dont think you need any bull in the terrier, especially if its just for rabbiting...like using a mallet to swat a fly Quote Link to post

Just that saw these advertised and wondered if they be any good . What would be your choice of dog be for possibly working with ferrets ? Quote Link to post
Attack Fell Terrier 864
I wouldn't bother with a straight staff X personally, it's up to you though, best of luck with your search. Quote Link to post

axle 63
just wondering if anyone does work them or know of any that were good grafters as i was planing the same mating myself I tried a few for a chap i knew a few years back. I was not impressed with the cross, they lacked the instinct to go to ground and the ability to find was very poor. Most of the 1/2 crosses were too big to go to ground but made decent dogs at the end of a dig if they were put right in front of the quarry. Even as far as the 1/8 cross produced too many failures for me and in my opinion it was the wrong way to go to obtain an outcross for a very inbred line of good working terriers. Maybe the wrong bull terrier was used for the cross but it is not a way i would choose to go. Quote Link to post

Halfinch 51
Why are people talking about the breed "going to ground" and "too hard"? If you read the post, the fella only wants it as a companion for his other staff and possibly to work with ferrets. Depends what you mean by working with ferrets mate? If you just want him to mark holes and do a bit of bushing he should be ok for that, but you'll need something a bit quicker to catch the rabbits running. Just for bushing and marking i use a Border Terrier, great little dog for what i need her for. Quote Link to post

woodard 32
be ok as a digging dog think you be best going for a Border or a JRT if your wanting to work it with ferrets like Halfinch said Heard nutall has breed some of them pattxbulls Quote Link to post
dogs-n-natives 1,182
I think you would be best to get a dog that was bred from rabbiting/ferreting parents, a lurcher would fill the bag better than most dogs mate, and might make a handy team with your other dog. if your serious about taking it up its probably best getting the dog for the job?
