Your opinions on shooting.

Guest night time my time
It all has its place.........I have beat enough days to see the real killers and the blokes that cant hit shite(beaters allways want a team of killers  ).........I have seen and owned dogs that would just educate game, bit of a tussel and the game runs free, I have taken shots and wounded quarry.........it happens.

Not all shooters are good shots, not all dogs are any good, a wire will ocasionally be set incorrectly........so what.

It all has its place.

wilf im just pointing out that there is to many guns given to people that dont know how to use them ,and it looks like it will continue to be the case in the future because since they band most hunting with dogs they are geting more request for a licence to own a gun ,and they keep giving them out willy nilly as long as you come up to a certain standard ,and being able to shoot one is not on the list of standards [fact ],ATB

what makes me laugh is that you need to take a test to drive a car yet you only need aply for a sgc or fac, should be tests for people alowed guns imo, infact there should be test for a lot of these f*****g idiots that own dogs,i have to say its dogs for me as i enjoy the man and his dog team work,i do also enjoy the odd days shooting,,each to there own along as respect is given to quarry,

so foxes dont kill for food then?...I spose they eat at macdonalds then get together and decide to go beat up some pheasants

Funnily enough where i am the foxes do raid the bins and scour the carpark at mcdonalds :clapper:

I once videoed a vixen carrying a 'Greggs' bag with a pie or pastie in it back to her young,a few days later i managed to entice a cub out of the sett by placing a pastie near the sett and hiding in the hedge.

What i dont like is a certain aspect of shooting people tend to look down on people who work lurchers and think there on the higher horse,,I had to put up with a few lads at college like that,,Saying how much lurchers where cackers dogs and how there labs can kill foxes in seconds and how game there border terriers are when they get a fox cub in a cage withit. :wallbash: What really annoys me around here,,Is that farmers and gamekeepers let beagles and foxhounds go on there land,,But get all hiped up when they see you running a few hares with a lurcher.

Unfortunatly I think you are right, there is some anymosity between certain sides of our sports, not that I think that is right. This thread shows that as do many post on this forum where dogmen are atacking keepers/shooters (one a few days ago about f###ing keepers).

"What really annoys me around here,,Is that farmers and gamekeepers let beagles and foxhounds go on there land,,But get all hiped up when they see you running a few hares with a lurcher."

There is an infurance that these organised hunts you mention will have permission (being organised hunts et al) to be doing what they are; in the above example, do you? That is often why keepers and farmers get "hiped up", resulting in bad blood and bad feelings.

Horses for corses, each to their own and with permission in the right situation there is a opportunity for all.

Maybe thats just why the thread was started after all; to create discord, and it seems to have worked. Light the toutch paper and stand back?

The thread was certainly not started to create discord; it seems that there is alot of people that cant have a healthy debate without a slangin match taking place. There was nothing wrong with the thread but it soon spirals into the vipers pit, if we all just acknowledge the pros and cons of each others sport and showed some respect for each other then things would be different.

i see no difference between using a dog or a gun or a dog and a gun! just two sides of the same coin!

on one side you get the satisfaction of working as a team and knowing that all the hard work you put in training your dog has paid off!

on the other you get the satisfaction of knowing all the hard work training yourself has paid off!

i also find that people who look down their noses at people who own lurchers look down their noses at pretty much every body else too, and i also have met plenty of "posh toffs" who are more down to earth and friendly than alot of so called "normal people"

as for my opinion on shooting! i enjoy it and support shooting in all its forms but i perfer my air rifle to a shotgun!

cheers

of course a thread like this will cause arguments, well engineered i think !! you say you don't agree with the shooting of fox`s as a method of control, but now youre saying " if we all just acknowledge the pros and cons of each others sport " sounds slightly hypocritical to me !

Personally i don NOT approve on taking deer with dogs but thats JMHO.

Whats the difference in a dog taking a fox and a dog taking a deer? Is it just a case of you enjoy shooting deer so you would like them all for yourself rather than see someone else enjoy persueing them aswell?
