I understand the reasoning behind this but it does mean that most will only go to pet homes and not working homes. There again, lots of them would be fine for working homes - neutered or not. Not everyone needs to breed from their dogs. If you were to rescue a dog that was neutered and it turned out to be a world beater, you could just consider yourself lucky to have the priviledge of owning such an animal. Quote Link to post
Hollie 21 Posted January 9, 2009 Author Report Share Posted January 9, 2009 £150 adoption fee, its £60 near me for a fully vaccinated and wormed dog, £150 is a bit expensive I think around my way the going rate is about £150ish, they have hundreds of dogs on this particular rescue and it is run by a woman from her home so i guess she has alot of running cost but i do agree it is a bit steep, maybe more people would adopt (family pets) if the price was cheaper. Within 3 days was approached by travellers claiming it was there dog and they wanted to buy him back, sent them on their bike and took a detour home. Have now had him for 10 years good all round dog. brookie 1,193 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Share Posted January 9, 2009 why would any one want one they are mostly dogs that have been dumped by people because they are no good its not a nice thing to happen to a dog but it does and sadly its what most of these dogs are How do you know if a 5 month old pup is going to be any good? my pup i rehomed from a family that couldn't cope with him so i know nothing about his breeding, admittly i didn't get him to work BUT hopefully i will do some with him, just not as regular as alot of people on here, I have had him for 4 weeks and his is only just starting to show interest in what going on around him while we are out, he is 4 months old. I understand that if you are a keen hunter that wants a dog from proven lines then rehoming wouldn't even be considered but there is a chance these dogs could turn out to be awesome im intending to do the lottery tomorrow and if i won that would be awsome as well Quote Link to post

adskibullus 0 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Share Posted January 9, 2009 (edited) i would my sister works for a rescue centre thats only for lurchers and greyhounds. thet get a lot of dogs through that have confiscated by the police when they have caught people poaching or from gypsy sites so you can get some good workers from them. most of the dogs become pets though even if they come from a working back ground. i borrow her suluki cross somtimes (to help teach my dog) its a good rabbiting dog. you only have to make a donation if you have a dog from this rescue they ask for 100 pounds but some tight b*****ds give alot less. whin 463 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Share Posted January 9, 2009 re homing can be a good thing but me personaly ,i think i would harden my heart and put all the unsuitable dogs to the sky as we are awash with dogs at times , nothing wrong with rehoming dogs i do it to my old jukels or injured jukels , but i no what they are all about and come with the gaurantee they come back if they are worth breeding and if not, well they do what they want as i e nuetur him as some of my ex working patts have not been ideal pets ,but some peole like them and can handle them well ,alot of dogs are owned by asholes who dont no how to enter a pup take them out to young sicken them before they are mature so some dogs can be good in the [bANNED TEXT] hands , not realy into rescue centres i try and get mines away to good people or put to sleep at the worst case if not suited as pets , i would rather put a dog away than a bad home , you cant keep them all unless your surrounded with kennel space and trusted people Quote Link to post
Rory4 267 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Share Posted January 9, 2009 prob younger the better mate. work hard training may take a while because mite of been taught some thing different by old owner. think only about 50 quid. a mate i no been ferreting and lamping with has got both his lurchers from dogs home. there not amazing but hes happy with them most of time! got both good and bad points probaly 75% good. they could be better hes bit soft with them. if get pup could get it 100%. some good cheap pups about with the credit crunch. totally up to you tho mate. bonanza 0 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Share Posted January 9, 2009 I got an 18mo old lurcher from a rehoming centre just over 3yrs ago.Yes he had problems,yes he was neutered, but he works well eniugh for what I need and is a good companion.He has had rabbit,hare and more and I must admit has been a bit of a surprise.I,m happy enough with him and yes I would do it again. He looked the part a big rough coated brindle dog about 26 - 27tts. Soon found out why no-one claimed him....opened up on everything he chased and had the engine of a petrol strimmer. Last straw was when he tried to bite me...straight back to where he came from. ....I think most of these dogs if they were any good would be claimed and pups not withstanding the majority of adult lurchers get dumped in these places because of faults in the dog....rightly or wrongly, but wouldn't touch another one if you paid me. whin 463 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Share Posted January 9, 2009 mate that is the last straw takeing a rehomed lurcher lol better fun with an ex track bitch go to any track youl get something and they can kill .there afew guys i no usd to go to cat and dog home get them try them no good sell them they had more dogs than hot dinners were eejits and well still are cheers was out the day with mate and airifle had fun ,and we beat a few coverts out ,rabbs and an old fox he had a good coat , pushed him out of whins and he tried to get ovewr stubble feils to next cover but never made it humanly dealt with Quote Link to post
