Hollie 21
I was just looking on this rescue site (i'm bored) and they have several young, what look like bull xs 5 month old Lurcher pups, they also have a beautiful 2 year old bitch that can 'jump' and chases cats LOL and it got me thinking about how many people would rehome a dog like this to work it, or do you like to know your dogs working background (parents/grandparents etc). http://www.freewebs.com/manytearsrescue/do...ingforhomes.htm Quote Link to post

ssssh1forthepot 0
In my opinion your better off getting a dog that is from proven working parents. Quote Link to post
brookie 1,193
why would any one want one they are mostly dogs that have been dumped by people because they are no good its not a nice thing to happen to a dog but it does and sadly its what most of these dogs are Quote Link to post
Guest Countryboyo
If the dogs were any good they wouldnt be in a dogs home. My opinion! Quote Link to post

I understand that if you are a keen hunter that wants a dog from proven lines then rehoming wouldn't even be considered but there is a chance these dogs could turn out to be awesome Quote Link to post

Some of them get dumped, some get lost, some are stolen and moved around then dumped, and some of them are turned over when they can't work anymore because of minor injuries or whatever .... plenty of dogs from rescues are good dogs for the average person. There are heaps of dogs in rescue who would make many a person happy. Many of them will give you 100% if you put the time in to get them right. Quote Link to post
kriti 274
Most rescue sites insist on neutering which puts alot of people off. I understand the reasoning behind this but it does mean that most will only go to pet homes and not working homes. Quote Link to post
earthpig 0
Its not nice to see dogs end up in dog homes ,but if the jokers that enter the hunting way of life, for only for a short period stoped trying to make a quik buck by thinking they know or got good workers themseves ,and stuck to some other sport such as golf , there wouldnt be this problem of second rate dogs in the working world ,and if you notice they are the ones that make a bad name for the true hunting men & women ,only breed of the best for the best ,its a way of life for me and many others, if it aint in you, you cant buy it no matter how much cash you got ,good hunting to the genuine men ,whats left of us! mad al 146
if they're young I'd say no problem, but as they say, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks". Without knowing the history you always have to think that it's the previous owners habit's be they good or bad that come to your door. Three of ours have previous "history" and it is an on going daily learning curve I can tell ya, but you soon find their qualities for sure Quote Link to post
JPTfellterrier 65
£150 adoption fee, its £60 near me for a fully vaccinated and wormed dog, £150 is a bit expensive Quote Link to post
ssssh1forthepot 0
I agree that you cant tell if a dog is going to be a good worker at 5 months, they shouldnt even be seeing anything untill 12 months in my opinion, but you have more chance of getting a good WORKING dog if the parents are proven workers and you know the breeding of your pup. Im not saying that some of these dogs in re-homeing centres couldnt turn out to be good workers cos im sure some of them would and im sure you could buy a dog and know the parents and it might turn out shit. Its just there is more chance of a better worker from working lines. Just my opinion Quote Link to post
