Kay 3,709
The male greyhound we took on several weeks ago has had a depressed spell & i just couldnt seem to get him to do anything, he also stopped eating for a day or so , no clinical symptoms of any kind of illness i think it was just the huge change he has gone through Well today for the first time he has interacted with me , i made a dummy for Madge ages ago & she wasnt interested in it so i gave it to him & he sniffed it & didnt bother with it for weeks well today he has bothered with it & seems a lot better in himself He lost some weight as well which i hope to get back on him in the next few weeks , its as if the spirit is broken , its so distressing to watch him just lay there & no matter what i did to engage him in play he just wasnt interested He has locked patches of fur away through constant licking & looks pretty sorry , i just hope he is on the mend mentally Anyway we had a little breakthrough today & he was retreving the dummy from a small pile of washing i was throwing it into I just hope he is ok & wish he could talk with any luck he will be ok & i wont give up on him

Hollie 21
He is a handsome fellow. You can not push depressed dogs, they have to do eveything at their own pace, just spend LOADS of time sitting beside him stroking him and talking to him gently, he will come round
Tracy36 0
bless........sounds as though he has turned a corner kay. it probably is the changes that the poor thing has been going through. just keep showing the patience that obviously you are already showing him and i m sure he'll be fine. he's in good safe hands and trust your instincts. atb (mine sulks if his walks aren't long enough, if im going to work, if he hasn't worked, had enough sticks thrown him, if there are strangers in the house, he's like a grumpy old git........) Got her from harprey manchester dog home, she was institutionised(bloody long word) They get so routine with racing and so on,i know for a fact she was depressed. It took her 6mths to come totally right,i got her working and watching her come back with a rabbit was worth a million. She was about 4yrs when she came to me,and had a happy 9 yrs. I de-catted her and her basic training was really easy,i wish more people would take greyhounds on. She really took to hunting feather on many occasions pheasants, duck as well as rabbit. Probably a one off,but hardly had her on a lead. She was the one that got me into lurchers.

Thats what i think this dog is '' conditioned'' i am going to let him run tomorrow muzzled i hate seeing his spirit broken & hope i can do something to help him get back what he has lost, i have found a place he can run where he will be safe i have just been waiting for the weather to pick up a bit , so i am going to give him a try I think i had an easy time of it with the bitch as she was so easy to have around the place & i foolishly thought the same about this dog , learning curve or what

arcticgun 4,548
A good long walk out, and a few retrieves in the fresh air, followed by a slap up nosh, should sort him out a bit! I really hope he cheers up soon and realises how lucky he is to have a good owner, like others said its probaly the change in circumstances and pace of life that have 'upset' him, good luck, atvb Richard
