escaped rabbits

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'm new to snaring and set 10 out yesterday. Went to look this morning and two had the peg still in the ground with some of the cord still on but looked chewed through. The cord is tough para cord so not sure what is going on. The snare and wire tealer were missing. Is this common or am i setting it wrong. do many rabbits chew there way out ??

Rabbits can and do chew through the holding twines on snares........unusual to find two out of ten wires though. Check they haven't been cleanly cut with a knife and someone has pinched your bunnies. ;);)

like rolfe says , it does look suspicous , fur lying around and the twines cut , a fox wouldn,t bite the twines .

Why bother cutting the twine,,When they could just remove the rabbit??????

Because now they have the snare too.

then why not pull the whole lot!

Exaclty,,Why would they take two rabbits and two snares out of ten snares?

Well if you catch the culprit then you can ask them. Maybe they only saw two snares as they had rabbits in, they may have been out when it was dark.

I can't say, it's only speculation.

my first snared rabbit got munched by a fox but thieves are a different matter anyone know where you can get man traps :whistling:

As Rolfe says check if they've been cut. Did it look like a knife job, or had they been chewed. If they're chewed then it's possibly just bad luck having two chewed through. Though I must say to lose two out of two is extremely odd.

if they are chewed you might want to try the glen waters fishing swivel and bent wire pin approach as apposed to the string and peg but as ianrob says thats very uncommon
