MikeTheDog 153
Usually happens when they are lacking something in their diet. Socks is pretty well up to speed on dogs dietary problems. What do you feed your dogs?
ABDog 0
The 'something lacking in the diet' is, in my opinion, a bit of an old wives tale. . . it is a possibility but not a usually. It's also, in my experience, more prevalent in kibble fed dogs.
johnnyboy28 1
give liver twice weekly, and feed sa37,codliver oil Thanks you two i have been feeding complete dried food , it seems like the more expensive (better) food makes them do it more. maybe i will go on to raw meat and bones and give that a go
ABDog 0
I have a theory (unproven) that solid waste from kibble fed dogs smells more like kibble than crap (to the dog). . There are things you can add to the diet which (allegedly) make it unpalatable but I don't remember what they are.
sandymere 8,263
Is it their own? many dogs eat cat sh*t as there's a lot of protien in it. This often starts with puppies being bored or underfed/low protein diets etc. If it's their own and both have started I'd worm both, increase their feed and be ultra careful to clean up all stools asap for a while to avoid access. If that isn't working there are a few remedies that people have used such as rock sulpher or charcoal but they seem to get mixed results. Best stop it before it becomes ingrained and is if their not hungry or bored and don't have easy acces to sh*t the behaivor should stop.

ABDog 0
I know dogs that are 100% not lacking in anything in their diet that eat solid waste. I had (many moons ago) an EBT and a Bullmastiff, both were fed the exact same food (Eukanuba), exercised the same etc.etc. The EBT ate solid waste, the mastiff didn't. Working all day does cause a few probs but minimise by a good walk in the mornigs and eve's to minimise stools in the kennel. Can you split them and feed add lib ie a bowl of dry food available at all times, the first few days they'll pig out but usually settle to eating little and often or kennel muzzle for a short while as a last line.
