woodga 170
well iv been asked to help tackle a problem of foxes taking some poulty and small piglets so yesterday ratcherman and myself went to a small plantation bordering the small holding to have a look and set a few fox snares in the hope of catching the culprits we had a fox this morning a small vixen but neither of us had the camera :blush-anim-cl: so we reset a snare on the run , and went up tonight with the tourch around 70clock to have a quick check i knew the foxes were regularly travelling this plantation and on arrival we discovered a nice vixen in the first snare . this was ratchermans first fox with a bit of tutition he got his first neck snared fox . the snare was set around ten inches high with a nice 8x10 noose notice there is no bushing in this is not required. here,s a picture of the set snare the vixen ratchermans first fox we then walked onto the next snare location and found a nice big dog fox also neck snared  this fox had some head on him and he was stockily built weight was 18 lb , he has a nice coat and im going to case skin him and keep the pelt . the dog fox the dog and vixen taken less than 50 yards apart hopefully the culprits Edited January 22, 2009 by woodga Quote Link to post

donk 12
yes we used earth anchors on both snare sets avoiding entanglement problems foxes dispatched with the rim fire Thats them,an amazingly simple but effective piece of kit. I was telling a lad round my way bout them a while back after he'd lost 18 hens,he was very sceptical, lol. Ijust said 'fair enough'. He was going to catch the rogue 'his own way' As far as i know he still hasnt caught it Quote Link to post
No1ShottySid 0
good stuff, how do you get the loop so round ? Quote Link to post
woodga 170
thats what you term a loaded snare as soon as a fox hits the loop it fires forward when the snare is made i run the first 5 or 6 inches below the eye arond a nail this curves the wire making the noose round it needs practice to perfect though Quote Link to post
