Spot on countryboyo. I think a lot of bull cross owners have masculinity hang ups and use their dogs to make up for their own inadequacies.

What the feck is the point of destroying a fox for no other purpose than posing with its carcass with the sort of dog more at home in a fighting pit?

Get a life bull cross owners and become genuine field sportsmen.

get a life bezza & you wouldnt have to complane about other peoples. it was called pest control for controling pests that killed peoples live stock. you never heard of pest control. so you dont kill rabbits rat ect for pest control for farmers that lose crops so what do you do apart from sound like a anti. if you dont want calling a anti dont sound like one.

Its some of the idiots that own them that give us a bad name, not the dog, and its not just bull crosses. Tarring everyone with the same brush is something that the antis do, because some jumped up yo

There is no point in destroying a fox for no other purpose than posing with its carcass but most genuine feild sportsmen and WOMEN who own bull crosses dont do it for just posing. AND if you read through some old posts you will see its not just bull crosses that are in the pictures so you shouldnt tar everyone with the same brush.

imo statements like the one above just show the ignorance of some people, stick together eh ???, i dont hear you complaining about running hares just for sport etc, whys that ????, one dead animal is the same as another, each to there own, i say...

i wonder just how many rabbits, hares, etc that are killed with dogs actually make it to the table ????, very very few i'd say....

foxes are vermin are'nt they ????, so the removal of fox could be classed as a good deed to some, now if you so called sportsmen were just after filling the pot then i take it you only take the odd rabbit etc when needed ????? if thats the case why have a dog, its talents are wasted get a ferret or a gun..... ;)

Weird!!! Come into fashion and dont dis a dog, i could say the same about you,MEAT you mean Rabbits, get a ferret and stop letting your dog crunch them up! You want a dog to take all quarry from Rats to Foxes widen your opotunities and wise up!

no mate i mean meat i dont just catch rabbit for meat & i have ferrets. so you wise up you cant eat fox or rats & fox hunting with dogs is band & we wouldnt want to break the law. :D

who has a bull x to look hard.... NOBODY, if people wanted to look hard they would get rottweilers. real pits not lurchers. moron! my bull x is used on rabbits as pest control so they dont dig burrows in my horses field and break its legs. alright theres better dogs for this job but i like bull breeds so what? i first cross bully would be to hyper active for me so mixed with a greyhound it makes a good chilled out pet aswel as a practical dog to have around the yard, bull x's are excellent with kids and know to be very people friendly which is a bonus for when people come onto the yard to see the horses.

When I first started out out with lurchers a dog was valued for its pot filling abilities. A dog that could take the full spectrum of fur and feather was considered the ultimate working companion.

Nowadays the ultimate lurcher is seen as the most macho looking bullcross that can soak up punishment and slaughter foxes night after night and never get sickened.

The old quotation: "The unspeakable in pursuit of the uneatable."comes to mind.

We've lost our way a little. Give me a dog that can put meat on the table rather than a fighting dog/ running dog hybrid anytime.

Personally I'm sick to death of 16 year old morons posting sicko photos of their fox catches with dogs that would be better served hunting lions or some other larger game. The bull cross has done nothing for the general lurcher owner other than give us a bad name. Discuss.

PS. Insult me as much as you like but don't call me an anti, that is below the belt.

i hate to be the one to tell you , but whatever running dog you have will have a trace of bull in it. whether it a greyhound or whippet . both have at one time no matter how long ago have bull blood in its genes. not every bull cross owner is the same either nor are bull crosses. im sure every family has the occasional physco in it. does that mean every member of that family is physco? youve obviously never owned a bull cross. theyre level headed, keen to please, faithfull dogs.rember tonight to thank lord orford and the whippet racers for making your lurchers that bit better

Well i own a bull x and to be honest if i wanted a dog to look 'hard' with i would get a f*****g pure bred or a rottweiler????? I don't need to look macho or have a dick extension either unless i have a sex change!!! Don't tar everyone with the brush. I own this type of lurcher because i like the temperament and working ability, she is very keen, loyal and would die working, i did not get her to only smash foxes up, she is so soft mouthed with rabbits that she will drop them and they will run off again so she has to catch them again, yet before the ban came in she was a fantastic freezer filler with roe and she could catch a daytime hare or two.

I have never posted pics just for posing as you put it, fox killing is pest control just like rabbit killing. I will have you know also that out of the lurchers i have seen working in my time the only dogs that crushed rabbits were collie x's or saluki x's. Every cross will have faults no matter what you say and all lurcher types have their place.

Join the real world, if you don't like the cross who cares, if we all liked the same thing the world would be a boring place!!

i remember reading an article in country mans weekly about it .thats why you get brindle greyhounds and whippets, the brindle comes from the old bulldogs that used to be crossed with the running dogs when it was illegal to own a pure bred greyhound unless you were a noble man.

This is my opinion, First of all you need something with alot of speed to put in. and then you would need some agression and a little size.

So a cross which will suit this description would be a bull x greyhound.

But then i also know a good dog which is a First cross Deerhound x greyhound a very fast powerful and agressive dog when it comes to thier quarry.

Am i right would like to know.

I'm part puting my neck on the block here wih Bezza. I'm going to agree with him regarding the macho pics of caught game and vermin. My whippets are good enough for a decent night out lamping or mornings ferreting to put food on the table if I desired to put it on my table.

One is soft mouthed, so much so that I could release the rabbit and it would be none the wiser that it had been retrieved. The other takes it to a corner of the field and crunches it until its unfit for any dish other than their own.

However, I differ from Bezza in that I have no problem with bull x or bull breeds. I also believe the post that at some time bull blood was introduced to the whippet.

Each to their own and if the dog is earning its keep (no matter what that keep is) and doing mankind some sort of service then it could be a haddock x for all I care.

But I hate to think, and, unfortunately I have come across evidence in the fields, that an animal died for no purpose other than just a trophy photograph.
