When I first started out out with lurchers a dog was valued for its pot filling abilities. A dog that could take the full spectrum of fur and feather was considered the ultimate working companion.

Nowadays the ultimate lurcher is seen as the most macho looking bullcross that can soak up punishment and slaughter foxes night after night and never get sickened.

The old quotation: "The unspeakable in pursuit of the uneatable."comes to mind.

We've lost our way a little. Give me a dog that can put meat on the table rather than a fighting dog/ running dog hybrid anytime.

Personally I'm sick to death of 16 year old morons posting sicko photos of their fox catches with dogs that would be better served hunting lions or some other larger game. The bull cross has done nothing for the general lurcher owner other than give us a bad name. Discuss.

everyone who dont own the bullcross runs them down and if your young you want them to be macho im 20 and owned bull xs since ive had lurchers as i grew up around one. if brought up well they are just liek any other cross you dont have to be a middle aged grumpy f****r to be working one to its full potential

he was mate one hell of a dog 50+ deer a season too many foxes to count one hell of a biddable dog i had a a son and a daughter from him same litter the dog died at 5 of a twisted gut after taking a hard tumble ferreting and the bitch i gave away to an old girl at retirement age about 8.. they were the best lurchers i ever owned....i did breed a litter out of the bitch before i gave her away she had 9 pups a month later the sire of the pups died had an fit... 8 months down the line the litter pups started showing the same signs as far as i know every single pup bar one died or was put to sleep with the same problem the bitch i kept back was amazing in the stert to her first working season retreiving all rabbits like a labrador... then out on a mooch one afternoon kicked over and rolled down a steep bank... she recovered but was pts later that night......

 

gutted it was more or less the end of that line... there are still a couple of outcrosses left but i went into the bulls after that and never looked back.... more drive and less wastage.....
