Guest mickyrichardson
Lamping hares is pointless with a dog at night a jack russel could probably catch one. Lets arrange a night out mate; for every hare your Jack Russel takes, I'll give you £100, for every one my Lurcher takes, you give me £10, see who has the most money at the end of the night !! The people who have never ran a hare, day or night, allways talk the most shite !! you might end up ten pound richer lol sorry mate made me chuckle the best i had seen was 6/6 daytime and loads on the lamp Quote Link to post

Jim Grant 4
CP & Micky R. Running dogs against a Hare is a nice test if you give them a decent slip, during the day. It is definately NOT the same if it happens under a lamp. Pre and Post ban never shot or run them on the lamp. Give them some respect. Quote Link to post
whin 463
coming from an area were there more deer and hares than there will ever be rabbits in most places , you daylite when the hares are there and lamp them for the pot or when the butcher wants afew ,done the whole sale killing of game, this year lucky if ive took as much on lamp as daylite had several daylite and lamped hares, when i was hungry for money ,lamp everything thta had a price, daylite to me is sport ,lamping well is to kill game if done [bANNED TEXT] and if you just want to killl end off , i like seing the chase but if i want hares to eat or for a buyer lamp them quick and get to fech, had twelve with a big mate of mines years ago ,had 5 during the day time christmas time with sniperx jade cross , to me a good hunter uses whats needed to catch the game with a dog ,a diffrent thing from coursing for sport , people get mixed up or are to stupid to see that , had land were we could only lamp and drive stubble and feild after feild great chases as the hares were strong and not easy duke of roxburghs land ,so no way would we get to course them daylite ,to be a succseful hunter localy you have to daylite lamp and use whatever to catch numbers and when your working daylite is out the window at times to dark ,so lamp a few to keep the dog [bANNED TEXT] and look for other game , if you dont work or can work and hunt then daylite is good but you cant beat driving stuiblles dogs at side yahoo the chase is on ,for fun with lamp no a guy who caut 9 hares he called them pudding hares with a bitch ,but were not good hares so to me and him didnt count Quote Link to post
whin 463
jim grant i no places that are beter in day time with the [bANNED TEXT] sort of dog than at nite to hilly, to big ,lose them on lamp dont get close to them ,hunted hares and coursed them for more years athan i want to remeber , some land suits lamping some well daylite is the best , all depends what you want out of your dog and life i like to prowl at nite and i like early morning sport when hares are fresh and jumpy , some want easy kills with dogs and wait till there tucked up in there bed , mid morning afternoon ,me up early on the feild and home for ten get your three or four runs if possible and happy , you have to live were it is to do it regulary and no every body about so you dont get caut etc nowadays Quote Link to post
Guest SJM
A guy up here has a very good little bitch which killed 5 out of 7, she missed the first 2 then killed 5. She is only ever ran during the day her owner does agree with lamping hares. She injured her foot last season and had 2 middle toes removed, leaving her foot looking something akin to a camels She ran and retreived 3 shot hares one after the other at the beginning of the season, after having not ran for months and her foot had been bandaged up for weeks on end. I couldnt beleive what I saw, the guts and determination of that wee dog. She was actually hitting them that hard she somersaulted right over. She retrieved better that day than some seasoned dogs I have seen that have full feet Ive seen her retreive 2s and 3s since that day, mostly in November as the frost put paid to a big chunk of our season this year and she performed consistently well as a retreiver despite the injury each time. Even though she cant put the foot on the ground while shes walking about, she hops on 3, as soon as that slip is released she is off, she is what I would call a real dog. She perhaps wouldnt suit everyone shes a small whippety dog, bred specifically to retreive in small fields, but she does also have the stay needed if the retreive is over distance, she just rarely has to use it because her mouth is so good and 9 times out of 10 she picks up and retrieves very quickly, but my kind of dog and one I think deserves a mention Edited January 8, 2009 by SJM Quote Link to post

littletimmy 71
I never can understand this, hares are easy on the lamp melarky. Im sure they are easIER as everything is. But the dog im running just cannot catch a hare on the lamp(perhaps had 4 out of 40) she does a bit better daytime (some how) but by al means is still crap on them probly had 5 out of 10, 4 of them single handed so when i read stuff about lamping them on here i just dont understand it. Now i know these arnt high numbers, i dont go out looking for hares and most of the time will step over them but just making my point Quote Link to post
