martin 332
I had an 'Echo cardiogram' today to see if I had a small hole inbetween the top two chambers in my heart, they were looking for the reason that I had my stroke.I had to lie on a bench type bed on my left side, all the time wearing a load of electrodes on my chest and sides, while a doctor used an ultrasound machine to look at my beating heart on a screen.I was positioned so that I could see what was going on in a mirror on the wall,so I could see my heart and the blood flow on the computer screen,it was amazing I can tell you. They then put in a canular in my left arm, with a 3 way junction into which they plugged two syringes, one of which was filled with sterilized water. They then pulled a little blood out of my arm into the water, and, then theysquirted one syringe into the other and back again a few times to make the water frothy(bubbly)and then they squirted the frothy water into my arm, and,it entered the heart very quickly, and there was a leakage from my left chamber into the right one, which basically means that I have a hole in my heart.WOW!!!!! This does sound a bit scary, but, apparently 1 in 4 people have this hole,it is there in all babies while they are in the womb, and, once the baby is born then it usually seals itself. But,as I said some peoples never seal, and, this does not necessarily mean that all of those will go on to have a stroke, but,I did.Now hopefully, but,I am now waiting for confirmation,I will be sent to Bristol to have this hole sealed, they do this by putting a shunt into your groin area, and sending a fibre optic gizmo up through an artery into the heart, and, placing a bung of some sort into the hole, and, that with any luck will stop me from having any more of these bloody strokes..............fingers crossed anyway..........wish me luck.................martin.
