muppet 0
Aarrgghh went into my aviary yesterday as usual to check for feathers and picked up three primaries in a dried up wingtip.Checked me feckin birds and buggered if the female harris hasn,t lost the end of her wing, must have been when she took a duck on the river and froze solid when she came out,i rushed her home an got the warm hairdrier on her an all seemed fine till now.Out of the blue this happens to be honest i,m friggin gutted.Three years of blood sweat an tears which made an awesum hunting bird taking everything(rabbits ducks, squirrels ,heron, crows, pheasants you name it she,s took it in fine style. Now buggered if i know what to do i,m told she,ll fly again but to what extent i don,t know.Anyone been in the same position i,m in any advice gladly accepted especially if this has happened to your bird and you,ve flown them afterward.I had big plans for next season with a red tail but at the moment i dont have the heart as flying one harris just wouldn,t be same as flying a cast,at the worst if she cant fly properly i,m gonna have to get me another female harris for day to day hunting and put the red tail on hold. Guest goran
Few HHs here in Ontario lost a wing tip or a toe to a frostbite but they are usualy hunted at a lower weight or their mews had open windows at nite.I hunt my birds daily at a max weight with still good responce but on a cold days we don't spend much time out.Catch and go home.Your bird will get almost all new primary feathers and fly again but not as fast like before. Thats bad new mate . its always the best birds that either end up dead or with a Injury that grounds them for the rest of their career. Cheers Tony Quote Link to post
