ellir0305 9 Posted January 6, 2009 Report Share Posted January 6, 2009 i am 16 at the moment and 17 next may, i wanted to know how old i would need to be to get a FAC. i would like to get a rimfire .22 as i have used them before, i have no idea which one to get and with a relatively low budget some advice would be apreciated on that side of things as well, at the current moment in time i only have the one farm to shoot on and i would be using it for rabbits, foxes, other small vermin. would this be enough ground (over 500 acres) andany other information that could help me, there is a wealth of knowledge on here and i would like as much help as a can get thanks rob Quote Link to post

To be honest, unless you have proved your skill with a rimfire, then you are highly unlikely to be allowed to use it for Fox. The smallest calibre that is generally used just for Fox is the .22 Hornet, but that is becoming a dying calibre, pretty quickly. In a nutshell. A .22 LR for small vermin and Rabbits, a .223 for fox. This is what most Rabbit/Fox shooters cut their teeth on nowadays. SS Quote Link to post

SS more questions how do i 'prove my skill' i want something current so i can get ammo etc what does LR stand for? and could .223 be used for the other small vermin as well? is it rimfire? To get Fox on your FAC for a Rimfire calibre, takes a lot of Ammunition, and normally many years of shooting Rimfires. A few lads on here have it, but not many. LR = Long Rifle. A .223 is a Centrefire cartridge meant for larger varmints, such as Fox. Lots of Ammo for a .223 about. You can shoot Rabbits with a .223 but only if they are head shot or there will be very little left of them. For Crows etc, then its just destroys them, so has the desired effect. Quote Link to post

For Crows etc, then its just destroys them, so has the desired effect. so your ammo goes down on your licence?what sort of price for a .22 rimmy with sights second hand probably how much is ammo now ive seen a box with £7 for 100 but i dont know how old it was? how many is a lot of ammo?
