what colour ferrets

What colour ferrets do you prefer and what are your reasons.

 

Personally I prefer whites with black eyes because strange as it sounds i find they work better and have a better temperament, also a big fan of polecats, I have had many different albinos from different stock but couldn't get away with them but they were easy to find in the undergrowth, not wanting to start any debates, just would like to know what you prefer

i prefer albinos because i find them easyer to see i dont think they work any better than others just prefer them

i love the polecats thats all i keep just something about them i use them in thick bramble or long grass never lost one yet fingers crossed cheers DM

For working I do prefer white ferrets but I have a soft spot for polecats and silvers. I did get a pure polecat jill and hob this year and for looks I dont think you can beat them.

As long as there light coloured im not to fussed ive albino's ,b.e.w. and silvers and sandies just as long as i can see them moving about in cover

I like to see the different variations, but it means nothing in the working situation, maybee apart from a fraction of a second reaction in a dog nailing a rabbit thats just bolted.

What worries me though is people will breed them just for looks instad of working pedigree.

Poley jills & hobs for me but i,ve 2 silver hobs at the moment as i fancied a change but any colour could find it's way into my court in the future....

If im working warrens that are under alot of cover and bracken i use my albino ferrets i find there alot slower to work aswell.If i wanna do sum speed ferreting or bolt em fast i put me polecats in the only down side is sumtimes they can work abit to quick and sumtimes run off down the hedge rows

I prefer the light coloured ferrets myself like albino or light silvers, dunno why but i think its from having my best workers in that colour. Every so often a poley or sandy will catch my eye though.

I've met loads of people who swear blind that poleys do one thing or another that whites can't do etc like poleys can climb steep tunnels better or that their faster and still won't have it that the colour doesn't matter even when you say that the poley and albino are litter mates

Colour is irrelevant, the die hards say that colour doesn't matter for working etc but why not keep a ferret that you like the appearance of? You can get ugly useful dogs but how many would choose an ugly pup before they knew what it would turn out like in the field?

i prefer polcats to look at but i think a albino is esier to see when ferreting in brambbles
