ferret killing underground

Recommended Posts

Hey, I have a male polecat ferret that is 8 months and I’ve had him with about two months. He’s working well but he has killed under ground the last five times he was out. Twice he’s dragged the rabbit out of the burrow which is funny and saves digging but is still time consuming. i have two older males that kill occasionally but don't lay up. We’ve made a special effort to keep quiet but he still kills even when the older two don't. So anyone have any tips to stop him killing, cause he’s a great ferret and accounts for a lot of rabbits but the lay ups are ruining our day

when he's used, is he used on his own?, even on small burries?

we tend to put max amount of ferts down, say 4 or 5, quite often find that with this amount down, the rabbits are less likely to sit tight, but bolt, where as a single fert, and rabbits might brave it out and sit tight

Some ferrets learn how to kill a rabbit very quickly and your sound's like that,i dont have a problem with that stick a collar on him and dig him out rabbits like that seem to make up half my bag these days

Problem with rabbits is they create stop-ends, and that is as far as thet can run from a ferret, once trapped the ferret puts its lights out, then you dig, try feeding more before you take him out, but to be honest every ferret should be sold with a spade, thats just the way it is. :D:D
