scotsman5 0
Hey, I have a male polecat ferret that is 8 months and I’ve had him with about two months. He’s working well but he has killed under ground the last five times he was out. Twice he’s dragged the rabbit out of the burrow which is funny and saves digging but is still time consuming. i have two older males that kill occasionally but don't lay up. We’ve made a special effort to keep quiet but he still kills even when the older two don't. So anyone have any tips to stop him killing, cause he’s a great ferret and accounts for a lot of rabbits but the lay ups are ruining our day Quote Link to post
stubby 175
when he's used, is he used on his own?, even on small burries? we tend to put max amount of ferts down, say 4 or 5, quite often find that with this amount down, the rabbits are less likely to sit tight, but bolt, where as a single fert, and rabbits might brave it out and sit tight Quote Link to post
Rolfe 2
Put a collar on him mate.......that way you can get him back sooner if he lays up. You won't stop him killing thats for sure.......if the rabbits won't bolt then he will stay with them. Rolfe Quote Link to post
scotsman5 0
thanks lads hes collared alright and hes hunted with the other two ferrets but most of the warrens i do are huge i mean we long use nets cause theres too many burrows to use purse nets so hes very often off on his own Quote Link to post
The one 8,463
Some ferrets learn how to kill a rabbit very quickly and your sound's like that,i dont have a problem with that stick a collar on him and dig him out rabbits like that seem to make up half my bag these days Quote Link to post
victor 10
feed him alittle before going out, not too much or he'll sleep lol, and use him in big warrens so thay have a better chance of escaping him. Quote Link to post

stealthy1 3,964
Problem with rabbits is they create stop-ends, and that is as far as thet can run from a ferret, once trapped the ferret puts its lights out, then you dig, try feeding more before you take him out, but to be honest every ferret should be sold with a spade, thats just the way it is. (By the way lads, the old feller was a pit man, his old feller was a pit man, but unfortunateley they were all closed down before I emerged!) YOU WERE RIGHT! Quote Link to post
