old dog 210
we were out this morning, didn't think we would have any good hunting snow and heavy frost during the night and i was right, plenty of furry friends running around the place, hunted the first furry friend in the wood right next to the vans, when he was in cover they were alright but once he hit the fields hounds struggled they could make him but it was ever so slow, not the pace they have been hunting at over the pasted few weeks, hounds just wasn't pushing him hard enough but for some reason he ran back into some marsh land and waited(stupid)hounds got back on terms with him, going better now and travelling at a faster pace hunting him down to a little smallholding who's been having problems with foxes taking his chickens one shot and he will not take any more.We carried on up to some big gorse banks they found another one he run topside of the bank and then crossed out over the fields hounds ran OK over the first and second field but to do the third was a big ask, they couldn't do anything with him, they were about as useful as a ashtray on a motorbike and that was the end of that hunt. The next place was a big valley which split into three different valley's this place has provided us with some good hunting over the years, and as i said when they stead in cover hounds could hunt them and we had some good music, but there is a spot here where two valley's meet we have nicknamed the Bermuda triangle over the years hounds have hunted to this spot in full cry as they did today (twice) and stopped dead, there is a few earths dotted about the place, but in fairness if he had gone in these hounds would mark him they are pretty hot at it,just don't know where they are going once they hit that spot, there was three boy's waiting today and they didn't see which way he went, never mind we only hunt these farms once a year unless we have a call out so the suspense goes on,with all this cold weather you think they would be to ground not today, they were sitting tight in cover getting up just in front of the hounds, most of our furry friends were running in pairs today ,one of these pairs hounds were snapping at his heal a welsh bitch called Vonnie was just a couple of feet of him,he was the first that disappeared in the Bermuda triangle and got away, but his mate was accounted for by one of the farmers, one of the boy's was saying on the CB that some hounds were hunting another one pushing him out of the valley and running a field keeping close to a hedge the lead hound then was one of my fell bitches tinker one hell of a hound, what he was saying if she had lifted her head she would have caught him, when they broke cover together he thought it was one of my hounds in front, never mind they are there for another day we missed six today, and yet apart from boxing day there was more guns out today than any other day this season,i took some photo's one of a second season welsh dog i bred solo he's doing me proud, roll on wednesday. i also took one for spindolero gareth wirehaired pointer x Quote Link to post

old dog 210
hi Steve g when i bred that litter Stuart down the ted worth and Ian nagged me for some pups,in the end i gave him two bitches he had them down with him for a season started hunting them and found them to be to head strong ,he couldn't stop them hunting,so i told him I'll have them back,no sign of these hounds appearing so i kept on telling Ian bring them back ,i knew there was something wrong, by the time that had lapsed next thing i was told that he had given them to the limerick hunt over there with you,he was friendly with their huntsman,i was not amused with what he had done it hard to trust some people,i though he was a trust worthy person.I also sent two up to yorkshire and them boy's are having good sport with them.
