Hi, i have dropped a good many hares, all from close (ish) range and never had one run off wounded. It should eat nice!

Although not recomended the airgun can and will put hares down as long as a relativley close and accurate shot is administered.

It is perfectly legal to shoot hares but i would ask people to remain aware that they are often suckling young from March through to september, and it would never do to leave such beautiful little leverets orphans now would it?

 

However, the person shooting at a hare 62 yards away it a total prick IMO....JD

 

 

I see where your coming from JD but I'm an old romantic that believes that a hare being the athlete it is deserves better than to be shot while it's sitting having it's lunch...but thats just me. Not having a go at anyone.

well your own opinion darcy but i was awe struck when my mate droped it at 62 yards we had been practicing at that distance all day but never thought it as a hunting distance. but dont worry the hare did drop in one and died humainly. and also i would say the hare had a very sporting chance we were not exactly quiet and he would have either missed completly or droped it like he did. Head shots remember. My friend is not a prick i would like to add and does take into account all sides of hunting the killing humainly the gutting and the cooking. The hare in the photo and with the description sound like it was far bigger than ours also good going lads.

Nowt wrong with bagging a hare if done right in my opinion.

 

We went through a spell of hardly seeing any here, but from last year they seem to be growing in numbers again. Which is nice

i know what you mean Undi, i havent shot a hare in a long while, but just because i dont shoot them doesnt mean i want everyone to stop shooting them. Its each to their own, i was only giving advice i.e get close and shoot accurately. if anything, the hare deserves a quick death.

believe me there is no one more passionate about hares, if you could see the photographs i have amassed here you would understand......

i agree....i dint see the point at shooting hares atall. they freeze and lie still so where is the sport. run it with a dog yes but point blank with a .22 whats the point!!

i agree....i dint see the point at shooting hares atall. they freeze and lie still so where is the sport. run it with a dog yes but point blank with a .22 whats the point!!

 

Because running them with a dog is illegal... flushing them out aint.

A Hare is not legal quarry for a 12ft pound air rifle.

I was walking with my new air rifle and my friend, as we walked over a blind hill in the field at the bottom, sitting there was a hare.

 

Me mate got it in the scope and shot it as quick as possible

this needs looking at more about 4 years ago i shot one on the lamp and on the way home got stoped by police who told me you need a game licence for hares.

nice one mate! hares are everwhere at the moment! me and my friend saw about 10 the other day and one out lamping which he shot with a webley stingray springer at 62yrd!! it was a bloody beast i will see if he can put the pics up.

 

I go out with a mate lamping and sometimes i use a webley Stingray and i have never even thought of shooting even a rabbit and 40 yds let alone 62, its either a VERY LUCKY shot or a VERY LUCKY shot. Have shot meany rabbits at 30-35 yds but a hare at 62 is a bit of a risk taker, did he take the shot to see if he would get lucky or did he know he was going to kill it straight away with one shot?

I don't think it's a legal thing it's whether they should be taken as they are rarely seen these days, if i saw one i'd probably take it mind you i'd be shooting it with an FAC how long a shot was it?
