What do you get for beating ?

Recommended Posts

There are a couple in interestin threads on this subject here:

Shooting Community - Beating Thread

From what I hear this season, shoots I know of are paying about 20-25quid, where they pay. Others are offering free food and a beer coupled with a beaters day.

I have to admit to being torn on the idea of "payment"; I hate the thought that some expect to be paid (see it as a given, a must) , or even turn down a days beating because the "money is crap"; when others are desperate to get out beating but cant find opportunities.

That said, as a gun I think it onle reasonable that beaters and pickers-up are thanked in some way for the efforts they have put in to making a days shooting a sucess.

:o WOW, that comes across as a very elitest attitude , you hate the fact they hate to be paid. remanisant of edwardien values.

of course beaters should be paid, there giving up either free time (weekends) or having a day of work.

not only should they get piad, they should also get a beaters day, and if there regulars and have the keepers trust, then rabbiting , pigion shooting permision . should be given.

get in the 21st century fella ;)

They charge about 40 quid a bird where I go I think and they often have 300+ bird days $$$$

but on the flip side take a second to think how much it cost to put that one bird into the larder ... it aint cheap... and not many shoots make a profit... fact

True but this shoot breeds all there own. I know they still need feed and the rest but It does cut down on costs when they put down 10's of K's of birds perhaps even into the 100K? If there doing 300 regular to even 450 bird days there must be a hell of alot of birds down and there Is. I know there's alot more labour doing that way, I've helped out mates who are the keeper and under keeper and I wouldn't want to be doing there job, especially for there wages.

I think its rather cheeky to be expected to work for free for a bunch of minted twats. If i ever did go beating and wasnt given anything in return it would be the last time i ever did it! I dont think its so much the money but the point of it. Its like people who pay for permission, fecking backwards
