Cheers all T-R You're being paid well mate, most of us do it just hoping for a days shooting late in the season.
will.f11 24
I do my beating in local shoots for 10 pounds without a working gundog, 20 with. Not much money but I really enjoy seeing the spaniels etc work the pheasants (the beating here is mainly done by dog as its not that getable to with people.) And a bit of sport and a shoot at the end of the season. But i enjoy it and I wouldnt care if i got payed nowt. Just think that i need to get payed as im working for the rich boys
maty j 6
Not even what they charge for 1 shot bird!! Still It's good craic.
will.f11 24
1 shot bird here is 25 quid. That is cheap compared to the big shoots up country. But TBH not much of the land down here is keepered
Born Hunter 17,775
20 quid, fed well on pork pie suasage roles chocy hobnobs coke and beer and at the end of the day big beef/pork joint for cobs. but beating pays in other ways aswell, as much pigeon shooting and rabbiting as we want and round about now we will be having a few walked up days just to have a bash at what birds are left. maty j 6
They charge about 40 quid a bird where I go I think and they often have 300+ bird days $$$$
will.f11 24
They are more smaller shoots here. I was beating yesterday at a 600 acre farm. Not big shoot and only about a 50 bird day. But only 8 guns and had a nice day with pastys and a brace at the end. There is a local partridge shoot here though which shoots 6 days a week and beating is much more formal. But at the smaller ones we just come if we feel like it and its all quite social
Tuzo 251
I got caught beating once........all i got was a thick ear
whippeter69 88
I get £20 and a brace, but i play a joke on the keeper, everyone sits on chairs and he starts paying at one end and works his way round, so what i do is sit where he starts off and when he pays me slowly get up and go sit at the other end so when he is finishing off i get another £20 but then i give it back to him lol, did it today, was well funny Edited January 3, 2009 by whippeter69
will.f11 24
why you give it back Edited January 3, 2009 by will.f11
The Sporting Agent 0
There are a couple in interestin threads on this subject here: PuBS Forum - Beaters Payment Shooting Community - Beating Thread From what I hear this season, shoots I know of are paying about 20-25quid, where they pay. Others are offering free food and a beer coupled with a beaters day. I have to admit to being torn on the idea of "payment"; I hate the thought that some expect to be paid (see it as a given, a must) , or even turn down a days beating because the "money is crap"; when others are desperate to get out beating but cant find opportunities. That said, as a gun I think it onle reasonable that beaters and pickers-up are thanked in some way for the efforts they have put in to making a days shooting a sucess.
