Brimmer 220
Got my ear bent on the way home yesterday to go out again today, (wanted to leave it untill tommorow, but the old un couldn't make it.) I told him I'd have a go on the easy low ground again. (knew it would be all netting up and bolting like last time a few weeks ago.) So the plucky little jill got thrown in the box along with 2 of the smaller hobs just in case she ran out of steam. Took the other young dog Robbie today, and got his marking off to a treat today. We netted up on these deep warrens cause they have a few in, and even I don't like digging to 6 footers. The old one says this is the best use for the ferret box I made. The little jill I took last time on these warrens was the main weapon again today, only once was a hob used to nail a really stubborn rabbit, wondered if she would fade, but no she saw the day out almost single handed, shifting nearly all the rabbits, and what didn't shift were dug to. (only around 6 or 7 digs today) She did really well again, (why did I let her 2 sisters go to a mate before trying them!) Hope the other 2 of the late litter do as well, they are untried yet, they were only born in August, I'll be set up propper then if they make. Even the farmer came and had half an hour with us today, luckily everything went to plan whilst he was there, we bolted 1 on one warren, and then bolted another on another warren and had a short dig resulting in 2 more rabbits up a stop end. He seemed shocked by the speed of things and the growing bag, which ended up at 33 rabbits. (there's only 30 in the piccie, I carried on doing another warren whilst the old fella gutted them.) Thats about it really, dog didn't run much but was the key with the marking, all down to the little jill again underground! Quote Link to post

Halfinch 51
Another good day then Brim, you must have a lot of rabbits on your land by the size and regularity of your bags. Well done mate. Quote Link to post

There has been in the past mate, knowing the land inside out is the key. Been on there over 18 yrs now we worked out the other day, I have a mental picture in my head of nearly every warren on the place, thats high ground and low ground. I know which are deep, which are shallow, which to work after heavy rain (They get pushed out of the drains into the warrens.) Which to work in snow. And most importantly, which to just forget about, some of the areas you are on to a loser from the start, and are lucky if you will see a ferret again ever. (having the right animals in your team is also a must!) Quote Link to post

Had a day out on the hedges Sat 27th and had three, missed three, first dig for rescue jill, three feet! she had climbed over the rabbit and killed it, then got stuck between rabbit and stopend, she's coming on really fast now.
