simon cachia 0
Hi Guys, I am currently applying for my shotgun license. I am looking to do some clays as well as game as I get some invites through work. I hav eno idea where to start in terms of which type of gun to look at, new or used, types of cabinets etc. I have tried to do a search on the forum for any threads but no success! Sorry if this is a another newbie asking 'bone' questions! Look forward to your answers. Simon. Quote Link to post
FLATTOP 4,550
Hello simon cabinets you can get a three gun cabinet for about a hundred pound brand new cheaper second hand off ebay but once postage is added you might as well get brand new . Guns baikal are cheap and cheerful and very reliable over and unders also rizzinis' 410 might be a good gun to get especially if you have a rat problem . When the fire arms officer comes round if you get your cabinet in advance make sure it is out of the way against an external wall secured by 10m raw bolts and be honest about any previous convictions you might have no matter how old they are as they all count good luck with your application you wont regret it . I have no past convictions (assuming penalty points don't count!) is there any chance I may still get refused? Quote Link to post
biffo 0
depends what your good reason is my father had a baikal 12b o/u, simply cant fault it at all. robust, reliable and i found it wonderfully easy to shoot. had a go at the clays with my uncles rizzini 20b o/u on boxing day, have to say i liked it. Dan_Smiff 2
In brief you'll likely want a o/u sporter to cover you for clays and game/vermin. 12 bore is common (cheapest cartridges), 20 bore also worth considering but cartridge price puts me off them. .410 if you like making things difficult for yourself! Gun fit should drive your decision when buying - best bet is to get to your nearest clay ground and have a lesson. They should be able to let you try different guns and help you to understand what to be looking for. Reading a thousand posts on here (or anywhere else) still wouldn't help you as much as an hour with a coach, a trap and some different guns. Enjoy! Quote Link to post

Thats the clincher, I'd sooner have a crap gun that fits right rather than the best gun that didn't Quote Link to post
