to the person who stated that "bushing" is a new term/thing!

Rabbiting and Ferreting a BFSS booklet i have the third edition was published in 1966.....i dont know when the first edition was published but i think it was in the 50's, has a part the last chapter entitled "rabbiting with dogs" and the practice he describes is what we now refer to as bushing! he discounts the use of running dogs and describes a small sporting bobbery pack of terriers and small hounds

In fact Bushing is merely hunting in its most basic form! a few dogs hunting something (usually a rabbit) together followed by their master (s)....so on that score "Bushing" is as old as hunting...cos that is what it is!

I would too like to see pics of these "bushing" dogs.....as 23 rabbits is a good haul ferreting, let alone chasing them with a couple of small dogs, for 4 hours!

I think more people hunt small packs these days....perhaps as a result of the hunting act? or perhaps for some other reason? also they use them to flush to lurchers , guns and longnets!

I have 3 dogs, a spaniel, a teckel x and a teckel pup....mine Bush

But i wouldn't want a competition.....firstly they aren't that productive....they catch an occasional rabbit/rat......and secondly walking the dogs and letting them hunt up is something that cant really be bet on, too many variable's.............thirdly it would remove what it is all about !

My little girl loves walking with me and the dogs as she gets to see wildlife as it breaks cover running from the dogs :victory:

That about sums up what we do with our terriers, take them out, watch them work the cover then go fecking mental when they do find something!
