Guest john the baptist
REW go to your doctor and demand an MRI i was fobbed off for years when i knew there was something seriously wrong they said , rest, physio ect ect, finally whilst on holiday i had an mri scan which showed up my bottom two discs were for easier understanding like flat tyres ( fecked basically ) and nowhere near doing the job they were made for. When home i saw my doctor and demanded to see a back SPECILIST not a consultant, i saw a MR MAHOJI KHRISHNA who by all accounts is the best there is, he told me strait only one option if i wanted any chance of an improvment and possible pain relief and it was a double spinal fusion and removal of the bottom two fecked discs, he told me the risks during and post surgery ie, death, heart failure, paralysis, and maybe no better or even worse pain that was the extreem scenario, the probable scenario was less pain, better movment, better quality of life ect and for me there was only one choice take the op. when i came around from the op i can only describe it as agony but they do give you good pain relief, for the first week things are preaty bad then things improve you gradually over a couple of months pull round i pushed myself hard and maybe expected to much but within a few days i was taking steps , within 2 weeks walking 2 , 3 hundred meters, within a month a mile and swimming, within 3 months very light weights, treadmill ect, from time to time i get a little pain-stiffness but im a year post op and the last 2 mts im noticing big leaps with less frequent bouts of little niggles. if your in as much pain as i was id say go for the op while your still young , your body will heal better, stronger , quicker. While waiting for the op keep fit walking, swimming ect, stop smoking as it hinders recovery and they may not even operate on you if your smoking as its been proven to lessen a spinal fusion op considerably, stop boozing. find a specialist as your doc to contact Mr Mahoji Khrishna at north tees hospital, stockton, teeside, the mans a Miricle worker in my eyes and il be eternally gratefull to the bloke and his skills.

Waiting for mri scan myself. Been on temegesic for 3 and half years. Already had 2 mri scans but if its gone worse this time they said they'd operate. It's more common than people think. People take the piss until they get it themselves. Horrible pain and the electic shock feeling down the leg aaarrrgh. Good luck and hope you get it sorted.

Its terrible how long the NHS has you waiting......i wouldnt mind but most of you guys are workers and pay into the state........its disgusting, i think we should be able to "opt out" of the NHS and put that money into private instead.....the NHS is probably too busy dealoing with immigrants instead of the people who actually pay for it.....

Hi

Have you had this diagnosed by the doctor?? Sounds a silly question realy. But As a Remedial masseur i have plenty of people contacting me saying they have sciatica, on treating them they have Piriformis Syndrome which gives similar aches and pains of sciatica. There should be someone who can do remedial / sports massage in your area.Get in touch with them and they will sort it out for you.

Good Luck

when i was 15 i had a herniated disc,....

pain started in left arse cheek then gradually down into hamstring etc....

i started walking huntched over to try and ease pain which resulted in stretch marks all over my lower back,..i couldnt straighten my leg,...it was unbelivably tight...

the pain was unbelivable (never my back) just my hamstring and arse cheek..mainly my hamstring though..

anyway i had something called a chymopain injection )i think thats what it was)...i think its banned now in america

anyway without going into details of the procedure etc all i can say is i had that treatment when i was 15 or maybe just turned 16,...im now 24 and touch wood never had a problem with,..i lead a very active life and afew years ago was quite into heavy weight training and i never had any problems with my previous herniated disc....

chymopapain....worth a look...

Maxhardcore....i had a mate who was referred from Sunderland general to go and see a Dr Khrishna,...it will be the same man he had a good reputation in the North east i believe
