never had a slow beardie to start work most are hard natured up in scotland steel of denny bred some good ones ,my mate got a dog like a feching big lakie terrier at times , nite time there about but youll only see them ,in big areas like moors and with the modern farming they have qauds to do the work but twenty years ago few qauds and they could send the beardie like an newzealand huntaway over the moor for amile and bring back the sheep , in ireland they still have droving curs in rural areas all about lauder you see them on the remote farms border looking but jackets on them like lakey terreirs at one time , hard mean fechers like a acd ,thye all had beardie through them , the feild trails put an end to alot of farm curs or what i call real dogs no madness just honest working dogs .ive saw lots of borders as they are typey easy to train as a whole but saw tonnes soft nesh hypper were ive had beardie crosses hard take foxes roe take a good row and come back for more, my mates danny took a roe buck 9 10 months saw alot of them and they were a fine dog , there a borders out there which are good but alot ive saw lately were small not pacy and soft natured at times , in scotland wales they bred beardie borders on some farms to get the hardines of the beardie and the herding qaulity of the border eye etc , saw them twenty years back long bedore they were popular ,wished you could have saw danny mac and some of there tribe sjm had one good little dog probaly better than the coli cross shees got , never out ran ,my beardie on rabbs even after 30 plus still waggibg her tail for abitch she was 25 , lacked agear for hares and fast roe so gave her away but a good odg and clever hunting dog bud , beardies and deerhounds wre bred for the same ground not down south ho i have pics of some away back got abookcalled farming before the war good pics and some good stamps sof collies , more like a norfolk lurcher but colies , saw good in both breeds mate, but up north on the remote hills the old beardie survives any were and still got go in them some are up on the leg to good for crossing and some throw smooth real good dogs as they are shapely but with balls and good feet

1/4 beardie 3/4 greyhound. Caught his first bunny at 5 months old, wouldn't exactly call that a slow start! Hare pics are pre-ban.

nice dog,be a more evenly matched dog to run my border bitch agianst than mickys whippet x as my bitch is 3/4 greyhound also, seen meny pics of him,how old is he now?,aways prefured a smooth coat,i know a good dog never bad colour etc, 5 months you ran him at? :icon_redface: not one to run mine at that age personally, they are far to young and under developed,i have a dog outside now, a merlin eve line breed courseind dog 6 months and wouldnt dream of takeing him for a run yet you risk ruining them for life imo,as for slow starter 3/4 of him is greyhound,i had a 6month 3/4 border x,years ago,(her daughter is now 12 and still catching on the lamp). i was walking her on the lead one night showing her what its all about.she sliped her coller when my older dog put a hare up,and beat him to the hare, probly more luck if im honest though, lucky she never damaged herself also as so young and not trained enough to call her off at such an age,i was not happy with her or myself for it,i look at my 6 month pup now and he isnt anywhere near old or strong enough to start running anything more than a retriveing dummy, his all uncordanated gangaly legs,

I'm not interested in running him in a match with any dog, I know his capabilities and I am more than happy with him, don't feel the need to justify him to anyone other than myself thanks. I'm not a fan of "matches" hunting is about sport, not beating other dogs or proving 'my dogs better than yours' etc imo. And no I didnt run him at 5 months, but he did get daily exercise, and he happened to catch it by chance while being exercised, nobody pushed him into it.
