roebuck220 80
The thing is a lot of binos look very good and clear when new,but you will see the diference a couple of years down the line. I think you should go for swarovski, zeiss or leica if you can. Quote Link to post
sauer 2
very true they might lookokjust now but build quality etc???? how long will they last?? im afraid its like a lot of stuff in life you dont get much for free.....or you dont get £1000+ quality out of a pair of £250 binos!!!!! i love my steiner safaris ive had for 3 years and they are good but i just have to take my brothers leica's and you just see the difference...if i can only make out a silhoute of a beast then with the leica;s you can still make out shoulder line hair colour differences etc...its like turning the clock back bout 45 minutes !!!! dawn & dusk are when binos come into their own.....if you can be lucky enuff to try a pair you fancy during these times then you will see the difference if you have a pair from Swarovski , Zeiss , leica ..etc with you also... honestly try to be out with someone at these times with a pair of "guid uns" and a lower grade pair.. you WILL literally see difference. not everyone can afford the big guns stuff tho and as with everything else in life you make do !!!!! but quality im afraid no matter what you are doing usually doesnt come cheap...but will last a lifetime and the backup service form the big guns is usually worth it also. my 2pence worth sauer Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
Thanks for all the replies guys. I am thinking about getting the Swarovski, but i am unsure as to the magnifiction. Can anyone give pointers, i want to be able to glass deer and watching birdlife really. But in some of the areas i need to be able to use them to spot the deer in dense woodland that is far back in order for me to locate them prior to stalking in close with the camera.....cheers JD p.s, also cheapest place in the UK? I have just bought my 8,5X42 EL on ebay for $1400 in the US (delivered for EUR1070) but Remmy gave you a good advice with http://www.cliftoncameras.co.uk/Swarovski_...x42_Binoculars_ There price is correct and they are official resellers so the 30 years warantee will be covered. Same with http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/de...spx?sku=1002317 I first ordered from them but they are idiots so I cancelled my order. You would save few quids with them but make sure that you give your home address to be delivered because they refuse to deliver in the office. Finally I saved even more on ebay with an interesting exchange rate. I chose the 8,5X42 EL because they are excellent for stalking and I had tried them before but the 7X42 would do the job as well for your usage. If you mostly stalk woods take the 7X42, if you mostly stalk open spaces, you walk a lot and do bird watching 8,5X42 will help. the 7X42SLC are much cheaper but much heavier than the 8,5X42 EL. Good luck in making your choice Edited January 5, 2009 by Paddywoodcock Quote Link to post
dogs-n-natives 1,182
Ive used zeiss bins' when I was an understalker in the highlands, they were compact but very good quality of vision, and lifetime warranty. The stalker always said if you bought zeiss or swarovski, you would never need to buy again. Quote Link to post
