Mate ,any idea on the approx age of that buck .I have my own guess just wondered if it tied in with yours .

Just to add a thing or two about antler growth .The actual growth of the antler is regulated by the amount of testosterone in a bucks body.Normal levels of the hormone found in a buck during winter ,allows the steady growth of antler .As the amount of daylight increases so does the testosterone increase until it reaches a peak in the rut .Its the increase in this hormone that stops antler growth .Bucks that have for some reason been castrated ,produce no testosterone and therefore the antler grows year upon year producing a mass of antler and velvet .

Well Foxdropper me old mate...My guess is that the buck is about 4 1/2 years old. But i wont know for certain until he gets his "hard horn" and i can compare him to a pic i took when he was a spindley little first-time six pointer back in 2007. MY thoughts are that he is. But veryfying such an assumption would prove to be impossible 100%, but i am hoping the antlers could be studied as i have some amazingly close shots of him when he was a youngster....

It will be great if those deer survive into spring, and i can photograph them as they moult out into their summer pelage. I know that the three adult ones are pretty much lamp-shy, so theres a good chance..... Although the buck looks like he will have a good head on him, reality is that it will probably be nothing more than a "average" six pointer with perhaps thickish coronets.....

:D

But thats just my guess....:D
