philip140 6
Hi guys, first off i'd like to say hello to everyone on this forum as this is my first post. i currently own a savage mark II .22lr and it has a burris fullfield II 3-9x40 mounted, it's a great setup but i'm looking for better accuracy from it. my main beef is that i'm a bit of an accuracy freak and it's best 5 shot groups average 1 - 1 1/2'' at 50 yds (rested) - strangely with ANY ammunition i feed it. it's consistent, but not consistently accurate if you get what i mean. my thinking is that i may improve accuracy by mounting a scope which is parallax adjustable since the burris is parallaxed at 100yds and i may be experiencing parallax error. i have my sights (or scope! ) set on a Simmons Master ProHunter 4-12x40 which is parallax adjustable and has BDC turrets which i rather miss on the burris. it also has some nice features which tempt me further. so: does anybody think having a parallax adjustable scope get me under an inch at 50 yds? does anybody have experience with a Simmons Master ProHunter 4-12x40 or similar in that range? many thanks for any help! jamie g 17
a fixed mag scope would be fine mate but to be fair i would have a good luck at the rifle. give it a good clean and check the crown. when i had 22lr i never cleaned it in till the groups opened up to much and buy that i mean at 60 yards i was getting ragged groups the size of a finger nail. 1 inch to 1 1/2 isnt the best really to be fair with a gun rested. start off with giving the barrel a clean check the mounts and scope are on right and tight but not over tight. put some rounds down it and there more then likey be way off but dont worry the barrel is just getting some ammo back down it. it will settle. then see how you get on Quote Link to post
philip140 6
i have tried cleaning the barrel which didn't really help much. the crown is perfect. i have tried everything and nothing makes any difference, it's currently glass bedded with the barrel floated. i have even tried forend pressure, nothing changes the accuracy - no better, no worse. confusing eh? Mr_Logic 5
Which brands of ammo have you tried with it? I wouldn't get one of the Simmons ones, I had a 6-24x44 briefly of theirs and it was absolutely awful. Badly built, optically poor. It went back PDQ. Personally I'd stick with the Burris, Fullfield II has good enough optics and I wouldn't worry about the parallax. What mag do you use? Quote Link to post
philip140 6
i have used about half a dozen different types of ammo. the gun shops near me don't have a great selection in 22lr, the ones i can remember using.... remington subsonic, winchester t22, winchester dynapoints, american eagle, winchester super x and another one i forget. i use mainly 9x mag for target shooting (and sighting) at 50 yds and 3-6x for hunting. Thanks for the help guys. Phil Quote Link to post

Phil seems to be a bit of a puzzle mate just for curiosity give the rifle to someone else to fire at targets, see if results are the same , could be down to shooting techneque Worth a try Quote Link to post
