"ridgebacks didnt hunt lions in the same sense as lurchers hunt. they tracked the lions and surrouded them baying at them until the hunter could get close enough to make the shot. riflrs in thoes days had poor accuarcy and slow loading times. the ridgebacks never actually attacked the lions, since then theyve been used as very efficient guard dogs and in australia used on wild boar to good use. i wonder how healthy they are?"

I've had RRs for over 20 years - currently have 5, they are generally a very healthy breed :)

Originally they were developed to hunt game and to protect the homesteads. They were meant to hold lions at bay - a RR that actually attacked a lion would be a dead RR. They should be agile (wouldn't be able to get out of the way of a lion otherwise!) and capable of great endurance and a fair amount of speed.

I was lead to beleive that the standard poodle hunted lions is this true

I like to think that the idea of somthing new is interesting, and what did the pit bull hunt then if it comes down to this, because in my opion the tosa and dago were also if not better fighting machines.. i just think its interesting to find out because theres so many possible crosses and remember he dares rodders.. Its just the person whos got time and a it could be a lifetime.. but id love to try something...

First off Gameness Is not a look...

And the American Pitbull Terrier Is the best fighting Dog out there!

Yes you get other Breeds that beat It but overall nothin' can touch a Good Gamebred Pit...

The Dogo was bred to Hunt large game and Tosas are far too large, they have the power but can't go the distance a good Pit can due to lack of wind.

The Romans had learned the value of large, intelligent dogs in the art of warfare from the natives of Britain, Ireland and the Norse and Teutonic warriors who made such strategic use of the fearless Irish Wolfhounds known for removing heads quite readily from soldiers in battle. Legend also has it that mighty Beowolf commanded such a dog, who never left his side and killed more enemies and monsters than the chieftain did.

Poodles were famous through the Middle Ages as exceptional war dogs, though their natural affinity for water allowed them to become famous Navy and yachting dogs. Known as “Water Spaniels†they performed flushing and retriever duties, and never managed to develop the fear of guns that many other dogs harbor. They were familiar companions to generals all the way through World War 2.

They’ve been used in falconry, and as truffle dogs, herders, guide dogs, HEDs and other special skills dogs because they are so intelligent and eager to please. The big standards and imperials were not common sights among the bourgeoisie until modern times, but have been favorites among circus performers and trained dog acts since Medieval times.

the principle of the game ie hunting is to not just kill have a brain and fetch and not munch everything up at times, i think a ridge cross qaulity greys would get a decent dog but getting the all round ridge is the prob who has proven itself, as for pitbulls my old budy had some his dogs were not big heavy things and were lite built ,but were game as thye won things etc,all youse guys go on about pit bulls if they are this and that,i no people who put a few away cause they were not trusted and some that were , you dont need a pitbull cross to do rabbs foxes deer and hold other things but you do no how to enter dogs correctly,
