jazz_11 5
well i revisited the permission i got which i went to ferret last week with old real tree without anyluck. today i took a good mate my 2 ferrets and he took his shotgun. well i have never worked my 2 properly till today and to be honest was hoping we shot more than ferreting. as i had visions of me going back with an emty box. well first set a 3 holer, looked promising, sent jill down 5 mins she came back up sent her back down and then she reapeared. second set bout 9 holes now, all open again fress rabbit droppings and everything but nout appeared. 3rd set was the biggest about 11 holes, netted up about 5 a few were under a holly bush so my mate guarded it with the shotgun in hand, again nothing appeared now that was strange as there were scratchings rabbit crap and even a little bit of fur... overall i was pleased with my little jill but dont think she was working proerly as she was reapearing to quick and just think she followed the straight path underground and wasnt actually working as such. we then walked on, where we came to a small piece of fern, well i was walking and a rabbit bolted a quick shout to my mate and he nailed it, then seconds later he didnt even have time to reload his gun he only had 1 shot in it, another bolted from the same spot and he narrowly missed it. well i was happy as we had something. but we couldnt workout where the rabbits came from. there were no holes or anything. i then walked on to spot a squirrel, which he nailed. i also then netted up a small 6 hole set, which again nothing, now this was strange as there were obvious signs of rabbit life. could it be my ferret? although we only ended with the one it was a good day none the less and great to get out. i just cant wait to get my shotgun certificate so ican do some rough shooting. no pics sorry Quote Link to post

Brimmer 220
You need a nose on the ground! Any dog worth it's salt can mark, just reading the dog is the key. Any change in posture, stance will probs show it up. Watch carefully, they are all different! Quote Link to post
jazz_11 5
i try and teach my spaniel to mark... but not properly. my spaniel starts to kind of shake when we are out beating and he is about to flush, his tail because its a long dock, it goes straight and stops wagging. strange i no but thats what he does, he will probs do the same thing with rabbits. he has bolted several rabits while beating.
