mattydski 560
Ferreting today.. bad start to the day, I was badly let down by a mate who decided to take his wife shopping in the sales tooday. I had even taken a pheasant round last night for him.. So kids, Landrover and ferrets loaded, we set off about 10.30. Got to the permission at about 11.00 am And set out to go to the first burrow.. then the second and third...no one home Then Went to the fourth. A single holer, netted up, and let my assistants sit down for a bit, the 200 yrd walk had obviously taken it out of them..aww. After a wait of about 10 mins, the kids were fed up and went back to the landrover for a rest.. I gave it another 20 mins, beofre i decided that my little Jill needed a bit of a help and sent her sister down. 10 mins later she reapeared, with out her sister. It seemed that she had killed down a stop end, and couldn't get out. The locator showed her at about 10 feet from the entrance and about 5 ft down, but still moving..Which suported my theory. So, filled in the entrance hole, and went back to the landy for a spade. A very deep dig later, I was right, I found my little Jill, very pleased to see me.. And a lesson for the younguns...how to back fill a 5ft deep hole properly , so that livestock dinnae break their legs, and the farmer disnae break your neck So 1 1/2 hours later... We decided to have lunch, Jamie decided to try to steel my hip flask, and Ben decided to steel my camera The afternoon..Em.. Well netted up a real big warren, more than i would normally tackle on my own. I am not sure whether no one was home, but didn't bolt a thing..may be the Jills were be given the run around..Not a single bolt.. After more complaints from the landrover , I netted up a couple of warrens I thought looked promising, and sent out the biggest fecking rat.. He got 60 grams of clear pigeon lead poisoning for his troubles... By this time the camera had run out, so had to take a couple of pics with the phone.. And now the size guess..this is next to my size 9.... So, the total tally for the day.. I f'ing rabbit, 1 f'ing Rat At least the fezzers fed themselves.. Tomorrow..Lamping Quote Link to post

Guest foxyjo.
I loved that!! sounded just like one of my sporting trips!!! I loved the "complaints from the landrover" (and a bloody smart bit o kit that is too Matty!) I have the same trouble, but now he's a bit older I get comments like "other people's Mum's go shopping, or watch telly or knit or something...what do I get? Mine's mental and has her 'ead in an 'ole"!! Or worse....I get a running commentry on the disasters..."That was worth it then...." Until I end up yelling for him to shut up! Oh the joys!!! A lovely write up and made me grin my head off! Lovely to see the little lads out and about. Quote Link to post
