summat decent 0
thought id get out this morning to get a few & give my new workers some sport... i didnt bother with the longnets today, just used the purse nets.. got to the patch that has 2 main warrens.. anyway, collared my ferrets up, 2 with the mk3m & the other with the original mk3. i started with the smaller warren & put the two down with the new collars, these were the two smaller of the 3, i just wanted to get the rabbits moving first before i brought in reinforcements !. after 10 minutes i got the locator out to see what was happening, couldnt get a mark on either of them ! so there i am doing a wider search just incase the warren was wider than i thought, all of a sudden it dawned on me that i didnt switch them on with the magnetic switch !! couldnt believe it, what a twat.. luckily i had ted with me that was collared up with the other collar, i entered him & within minutes i had him fixed at 2ft, i left a marker on the spot, a few minutes later the other two surfaced with blood all over their faces, so i knew there was a definate kill under, i switched their collars on, then put them back in the box whilst i dug at the spot, started to dig & sure enough, there was ted with the rabbit... i put them under again just incase there was any more under, but no joy... i moved onto the next set, i netted up as many holes as i could see, then entered the ferrets... poke nets come in handy, definately worth having a couple to hand.. within a few minutes i heard screams coming near by, all of a sudden a rabbit bolted from a hole that was hidden & then another, two got away.. then i located my ferrets running about under & was waiting to get a fix, i didnt have to wait too long as one flew straight into the purse net with two ferrets close behind with fur in their mouths... i re-entered them for another rabbit to bolt from a hidden hole.. shortly afterwards i ended up boxing the ferrets up & calling it a day... a hidden hole, which was impossible to find...... the ones that wernt so lucky... two things i learnt today, make sure the collars are on, & from experience, i should of thrown a long net around instead of relying on purse nets.. too lazy to walk to the motor & get it.. Thanks for posting this, having to get a couple of mk3 myself.Mk1s though second-hand and brilliant are too damned expensive for me.Did'nt know about the switch,do now thankyou. Went out myself couple of days ago, also only got two rabbits bringing on youngsters,so was happy enough.I must say though i could'nt do it without my lurcher, great job the dog she saves me alot of legwork.Im a lazy bugger too! Thanks again for warning.
