masterhunter 3
i have a couple of spring traps and they are stored hung outside so as not to make them smell, but my solway feeders bodygrip 116 is getting a layer of rust on it especially on the trigger machanism. will this affect the working and is there any way of preventing it . stuill on the bodygrip subject is there a better safety catch that can be added as even with the safety on if it goes off it gives you a nasty wrap across the knuckles. rob Hi rob the safety catch supplied by trapworks .co.uk sound very much like the safety catch I designed several years ago. At the time, I was trapping rats. using 110 and 116 bodygrip traps I found the safety on them was too cumbersome and caught up on the traps and caused mis-fires.So I designed a small safety catch made from thin (1mm) stainless wire. this comprises of a piece of wire 4" long it is folded into a U shape. in the middle of the U you form a 1/2" circle in the wire. On the two ends of the wire you form 2 1/4 "circles. These are the opposite way round to the one in the middle. These 2 quarter inch circles are opened up so they can be slipped on the bar on each side of the trigger wire holders. When the catch is placed in the set position in the first notch (the lightest setting) the 1/2" circle is pressed over the top of it, This will stop the trigger bar from coming out of the notch and setting the trap off. If you own or can beg/borrow (not steal) a pair of round nose pliers you can make these safety catches in seconds. I also designed the tensile steel wire tealers for holding magnum traps in position, and others for setting bodygrippers on wooden and concrete floors. These have all been shown on my trapping board at the Midland Game Fair for the past 3 years. I sent some out to some American Trappers and they have used them for several years. I use hot candle wax on my bodygrippers to keep them firing fast. If you would like any more info give me a ring on 01980 610366 regards Alan Salmon Masterhunter Quote Link to post

Rolfe 2
I was always taught to use clear candle wax on my traps to keep them firing sweetly.......and still do to this day, But another useful alternative is a tiny amount of vegetable oil applied lightly with a small brush....this is good around the spring area of some traps.
