rusting spring traps

i have a couple of spring traps and they are stored hung outside so as not to make them smell, but my solway feeders bodygrip 116 is getting a layer of rust on it especially on the trigger machanism. will this affect the working and is there any way of preventing it .

 

 

stuill on the bodygrip subject is there a better safety catch that can be added as even with the safety on if it goes off it gives you a nasty wrap across the knuckles.

Speed dip will stop the rust and help the trap to fire faster, and TrapWorks sell a type of safety device for the BG - have a look

cheers guys but isnt speeddip only available in the US and due to such a small number of traps i dont want to fork out to much is there some kind of DIY way????

There's no easy way that I know except speed-dip

cheers i heard of covering rat fenns in bacon/ fryup fat but i thought this would be counterintuative for rabbits

As OTC says I do have some but it's a bit pricey - especially now the $/£ rate has changed.

 

I was looking into bulk importing it but there didn't / doesn't seem to be much demand in the UK.

Ellir0305, send me a pm with your addy and I will post you a couple of safety catches. However, they only work on the first notch of the body grip, that is the most sensitive setting.

i will hold off on the speed dip though as someone PM'd me about using oak leaves but i will have to wait for the spring shoots:(

The magnums already have safety catches on the spring bars...Also that speed dip is decent gear but gets everywhere, don't be hanging any traps on your washing line as your missus won't like anything left on her whites

i'm only 16 so i only have my mum to shout at me fro the washing line thing atm but i kno they have catches on the spring the point is that these are shit and the trap still bites you hence why holdaway came up with a new system

holdaway did not come up with that idea at all again its been copied but the original idea including the shape of that saftey was first thought up by master hunter from this forum
