OldTrapCollector 377
I was just wondering how long your longnet endpins are - do they vary according to your technique or soil type? OTC Quote Link to post

OldTrapCollector 377
Will your 9" pin take a full 100 yard net easily? OTC Quote Link to post
Rolfe 2
All my longnet anchor pins are 12 inches long from top of ring to tip of point. Just put a picture up of what i believe is a very old hand-made (victorian?) long net end-pin (12in) that I found alongside a covert side on an very long established shooting estate near me........famous for poaching exploits in years gone by........Thought OTC would like to see it as he likes old artifacts 1 Quote Link to post
ianrob 2
Will your 9" pin take a full 100 yard net easily? OTC The holding part is 9" and yes they do, though the loops on the top are various shapes and sizes, I measured and the holding part of the pins is more or less 9". Quote Link to post

OldTrapCollector 377
Judging by the few responses I have had (from different parts of the country) it doesn't seem to have a regional variation for soil types I thought maybe clay soils might need shorter ones than sand for example? So 9" - 12" would be the norm for a full size net?? OTC Quote Link to post

OTC I have never seen any longer than 12in, (that doesn't mean there aren't any about) but they are plenty long enough at that length to hold in most suitable netting ground. Often i wish mine were that bit shorter as they take some pushing in at times, especially on hard dry ground. At 12in they will hold taut a 100yrd net easily......over that i cannot comment as have never dropped a longer one (I prefer to work with four 50yrd nets). The blokes i knew as a lad only had 12in pins also..........and they dropped hundreds of yards of netting some nights without any problems. Hope this helps a bit. Quote Link to post

OTC these where what I used, the mesh must not be able to slip over the handle a good length is needed on cultivated ground.I now only use quick sets. Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
Interesting design Para - do they work better than the conventional ring and pin type or on a par? I can see how they would work though - good idea OTC Quote Link to post
Rabbithunter 456
Nice design there Para. I used to prefer 9" pins, with a 2inch ring on them. Quote Link to post

On hard ground you can knock them in with your boot. Quote Link to post
