night moocher 41
LOVE reading these posts about salukis, this is just my 2pence worth, look up and down the country and then come back and post how many match dogs that havn't got saluki in them. ive seen my own bitch do old longears on big land [saluki/grey/collie/grey] and to be honest i wouldnt put her through it on the fen at this time of year, october november yes, all the hares on there now that hav'nt been took have had a good frost on their backs and will destroy a dog thats not bred for the job or conditioned , if people value their dogs no matter what the breed and you go there 1 slip is enough in january to see what your dogs made of. this is my own thoughts and every one is different, salukis and their hybrids will dominate the fens for along time to come . good mooching lads and lasses .........steve Quote Link to post
runforyourlife 361
Anonymous, you just cant help yourself can you, lol..... Why dont you just be nice for once, you'll make more enimies than friends on here. Its a fact. And course other lurchers will catch the things.. I just find it hard to understand how someone without a saluiki, or doesnt work the fens, can comment, i really dont... Quote Link to post
TOMO 25,985
been to the fens alot then anonymous??????? Aye, all the time mate..... Try to get down once or twice a day..... What is this... pick on anon day? Are you guys telling me that only a saluki will catch a hare on the fens today? Is that really what you are saying? not picking on you fella, evryone is entiteled to there opinion, we all have our faverite types. but it would help if your commenting on somthing to at least have experiance of it. i get the felling you havent been there. if im wrong i apologies Hey Tomo, I respect that. All I have done here mate is questioned one guys opinion that only a saluki will catch a hare on the fens in the next 8 weeks. Now, c'mon mate, is that really a statememnt you'd expect someone in the know to come out with? We ain't talking about catching 3,4 or 5 here, we are talking about a single hare!!! the word that has been missing from those posts was "REGULAR" of course other dogs will kill some hares up the fens. as i said i had one , and not just the odd one but 2's and somtimes 3's Quote Link to post
Guest anonymous
What dogs are best round my house anonymous, big open moorland strewned with rock and crags?? You said that in a post not long ago" are you all picking on me" just dont argue with everyone, or comment on stuff you know very little about...... Do you know geoff ogden "main slipper at altcarr" And president of the coursing club in lincoln...? What's your problem? Is it because I doubted this guys comments? Is that it? Didn't you get what you wanted off of Santa? As for Geoff, what if I do? As for me argueing with everyone, I don't care that you are all picking on me, bring it on. Don't matter a jot... As old quiver throat from the Bee gees said..... it's only words.............. As for what dog would suit around about your house, hmmmmmmmmmm.... I'll get back to you on that one... Guest anonymous
they are the only breed of dogs mate that will stop hares on the fen at this time of year no other breed will catch em up there nowdont be daft mate other dogs have and still will take hares on the fen this time of the year Thank F that!!! Thought I was going mad!!! Either that or we aren't experianced coursing men.... i cant see how people can say no other dogs will catch them on the fen this time of the year all other dogs must run backwards december/january Some folk become that narrow minded to there own kind, they can't see past the end of there own noses. You'd think every Saluki was a world beater just cos it's a saluki!!! I've seen some really good saluki's and I've seen some duffers, just like any breed. But to say only a Saluki could catch a winter hare on the fens and actually believe it, well......  well boys i aint going to get into an argument with any of you concerning the attributes of the saluki because it bores me to tears but i aint narrow minded when i state that only saluki types will kill em up there this time of year i state it from experience gained from coursing big land for over thirty years and lamping for longer than that not from visiting the fens once or twice in a life time what i will say is this take any dog to lincoln with out saluki bloog in it now over the next 8 weeks get it on big land run two hares with it and the odds are it will jack and those with out the experience of running hares up there this time of year dispute that well i say this meet up up there and run a couple with us . we are not talking stubble hares or three quarter grown hares in november now we are talking the real thing winter hares theres a massive difference i can assure you Twice it was written Tomo, no sign of the word regular... Take any dog the man says... Quote Link to post

I just love pulling you fen boys chain... it's so easy to do You are so passionate about your wee barren land which I respect. So, when someone comes out with a statement like the one I highlighted I had to react.... C'mon mate, we are all one of the same on here only some of us are uglier than others.... Quote Link to post

Guest SJM
This guy is on drugs or something I wouldnt even waste time replying to him He said in an earlier topic the best hares in the country are in Perth No wonder he thinks theyre hard if hes chasing them with collie crosses or a bull cross Im not prejudiced against collie crosses either, I own 2, but I enjoy them for what they are - rabbiting dogs!
