jazz_11 5
well over the last few weeks i have kept my ferrets inside, just my 2 working ferrets the other 3 are outside and have been for months, but anyway the 2 i got the cage i got them in was designed for indoors and being in a garage so when i got it took me a while to cover it in the same stuff the shed roofs are coverd in. also the cage didnt have a specific bed it had a hammock which they slept in. while i had to take that down, i bought a ferret box as there bed took the strap off cut out a hole in the front where the ventilation holes were, stuffed it with newspaper and bedding and secured it in the cage. im just wondering will they be ok going from a nice warm house to -4 -5 at night outside. im also going to cover them at night like i do with the other cage with a blue ground sheet to keep them as dry as possible. there are 2 ferrets in this cage. any advice please. The one 8,479
Your ferrets would have been fine in a nice weatherproof hutch out side with good dry bedding .Are those cages no made for rats ect to be kept in a house ? Quote Link to post
jazz_11 5
no its a home made cage proper ferret cage made of wood and ply not that wire stuff like rat cages. the guy who i got them off kept them in his garage and when i got them i havnt got a garage so they stayed inside for a few weeks while i damp proof the cage etc and now its ready they can go outside.... surely over a few days they will be used to it , its just those first few days that im worried about. stubby 175
I'd normally say the same as kay, they have fur coats, and can stand cold better than hot, all 15 of mine are still sleeping in one box in the outside court, so as long as they have others to sleep with, should be ok, although we too have 2 pet jills that live in the front room in a very large cage, we moved them out to the garage for christmas day, because my mother was coming for dinner, and shes shit scared of ferts, well our two that are used to a central heated house, looked well pissed off being stuck in the garage Quote Link to post

TARA G 0
Both my ferrets are outside in the hutch and they have pieces of an imitation fur coat in their bed and they are doing fine. Infact one of them tends to sleep in the hammock in the day even when it s really cold so they must be warm enough. Tara. Quote Link to post
