Sterry 0
cheers guys. On the rifle front im looking towards a .223, mainly because iheard only good things bout them and the home office suggests a minimum of .222 so hopefully FEO will be happy to grant this. hope you all had a good xmas. Guest w.m.avian
it may take a while too get a bit of permission, but when you do, treat the land with respect do a good job keeping the vermin down and you will be surprised how word will travel, be it good or bad....... good luck. bad news travels faster then good news Quote Link to post
clivej 0
I use a 7amp/hour battery on the 170 but it has a dimmer fitted as well and that will give me about 3 hours of work at night. Get a LED lamp that fits around your head for walking to the shot fox that will save the battery. Also while your in the car you can be charging the battery at the same time as lamping from the car/4x4 Quote Link to post

Mr_Logic 5
Agreed, my 223 don't do that 243 yes, not 223 though... Quote Link to post
Sterry 0
223 all the way One of the places who wants me already to shoot a few foxes, want them gone, but their words " I dont want anything blown up and all hanging off" (fair doos i suppose if they are kind enough to gove me the permission) but would a shot to heat/lungs look less "grizzly" for a better word? or was this just close rangeish?? It funny i know but that the reason i'm not going for a .243. Quote Link to post
Born Again 1
I don't know if this will help you get a permission but a friend recently got a shoot on a golf course where the groundsman was having trouble with rabbits digging holes in the greens. After one trip there he found out that it was foxes digging for worms, not rabbits, so he now takes the 223 and shoots them. Hardly a rabbit to be seen there. Might be worth dropping in to your local golf course and mentioning it, in case there is nobody controlling foxes there. Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Sterry, To answer above, you can never tell what a bullet will do every time with certainty. But as a general rule, if using Ballistic Tips, the bullet is not half as likely to exit as with a soft or hollow point. Depending on the grain. I know the 40gr Hornady V-Max in .223 rarely creates an exit wound. And the 50gr Hornady's I use in the .222 are the same. Very rare they exit. Depending on where you shoot them of course SS Quote Link to post
