Kye 77
Skipping a day of feeding can be good sometimes, but we never skip feed pups, or dogs that are recovering, or lactating mothers...
T78 4
i feed mine about ten o clock at night if not going out. if they are out(usually go out at ten thirtyish),they get a handful or two of dried at about 5,when i get in from work. i never used to feed them at all before working them as most of my mates never have fed theres but i find they run better with a SMALL feed earlier.they get fed a normal meal when we get in at 3 a.m. or so. littletimmy 71
Not eating before exercise causes cramp and stiches for humans and i have been told it is the same for working dogs. So if you want the best out of your dog i would feed it a tin of dog food about an hour before it goes out lamping/ferreting. DOPE !! someone had to say it
littletimmy 71
Is tined food bad for them? Normally i feed them ONLY if i take them working not for everyday food Read the lael, mate !! 90% water !! And as for feeding a dog 1 hour before lamping...... well, words fail me !! K thanks mate, not going to buy that crap anymore, thanks Yep was told by an old boy who "claims" he had very good deerhound X greyhound crosses that he said the best nights they worked was when they were fed an hour or less before going out. Just cos' hes old don't make him wise
sandymere 8,263
A heavey meal before exercise is a no no but if the dog is going for a long session then a light snack, carb based for quick absorbtion, an hour or so prior to setting off will top up energy stores. During a long night or days work a little top up of glucose type drink will help to keep the muscles firing. Finally a good meal on return home. There's much to be said for natural diets but dogs don't naturally carry out multiple sprints over many hours so feeding needs to be altered to meet requirements. stormrider8 59
I've had dogs that run better when only fed the night before when going lamping, but the one i have now runs better if its had a meal in the morning. I think you get to know your dog and whats best for there perfomance!
