time to ground

Recommended Posts

well you pair of ????? , if you took the time to look back at the thread i put up about it at the time you would know exactly why!!! and guess what she didnt even have a collar on :whistling: i was out dogging pheashants in (chasing them back to where they should be) on a huge broom bank, one minute she was there the next she was gone, so a slow search was started, to no avail at first, i left to speak to the near by farmers, then returned and looked again, this time i found her in a single holer, nothing more than a scraped out bunny hole..... so thats how :wallbash: i only wish my dogs were like yours, unable to find game to ground with out being taken to a hole :notworthy:

if i got a dig under 5 ft i ,d think it was my f--king birthday ,and normally clay most of way ,when you hit the golden stuff you no you nearly there ,but had plenty digs between 5 and ten and some even deeper , it takes a very good dog to last to its game at these sort of depths ,im not saying for a second that my dogs are the best in world because they not ,ive had dogs come off after a full afternoon under ground ,were the dog has lost the battle , and took a hell of a lot of stick , as far ias im concerned the dogs give its all for a good few hours i,ll do for me , on many times ive seen good dogs get took to pieces by the same fox one after another ,2or 3 dogs sometimes ,the bitch i have at hte moment will stay at her job and will hold till you break through then she grabs hold and dosnt seem to take that much stick ,as with my 2 yr old dog on his first proper season seems to just want to kill every thing he meets and every time you put to ground you sort of get that feeling it could be the last time you see alive ,but if your happy and get the results then its up you

What part was that then cant see that post of yours anywhere in this fred only the bit where you jump on mine?

all i am saying is why would you want to call a dog off a fox unless its for tea and biscuits

the dog is there to do what it is breed for working a fox till it is dug or it has bolted

only thing i could think of if you was calling you dog out is if you new it was on a rabbit and there was a chance it would come out ?

you said

yeh what ever you say, a bitch iv just retired has stayed to ground for 7 or so hours working away at her quarry at a dig that was only 2 shovel fulls, but she still stayed and worked away ( self entered, post on here) yet i could put her to ground and let her get to work and shout her off, and out she would come

vantage point or not your terrier should lock on and dislodge it from iys vantage point.

Well I reckon u'll be in for a shock when ur dog does get a fox in an awkward position. A hard lakey dog I used to dig to regularly was retired after a dig to a little vixen which removed most of his teeth. It was only when he couldn't get right up to the quarry that we ever dug the fox alive. He was a serious digging dog killed foxes for fun & was tested regularly. His best dig was around 7-8hrs in a rock hole with 3 bottled up. A game dog but sensible with it. Put to sleep 2wks ago aged 14, would give anything for his head on a 2yr olds shoulders.

i didnt jump on yours , i just said that i totally dis agree with you or any one else that says all dogs that you can shout out are not true working terriers... and if you have been digging as long as you say you have then you should know there are times and places that its very handy to be able to do it... the way i look at it is that you jumped at me with out knowing the full story of the particular day that i gave as a example... but i guess i shouldnt be argueing with such a guru of the terrier world, you make me feel not worthy :notworthy::rolleyes:
