legal caliber for deer in south of ireland

:wallbash: Had a very heated debate with a shooter last night regarding stalking deer in the rep ireland... he saying you can shoot deer with a 22/50... I dont think so :thumbdown: any good info to be had will be of great help.. looking forward to getting the 20 pounds bet of him :whistling:

Hi One Shot Paddy

 

22-250 is the minimum legal caliber for deer in the Republic of Ireland (check on board.ie)

However it is recommended to shoot .243 and over and licences can not be granted if you apply with a 22-250

 

Don't take the bet ;)

Thanks for the reply... can you apply if you hold a 223?... :(

the 22-250 may be granted a deer hunting permit but you may have to prove you have been stalking before and know the score, it's not an ideal calibre in my eyes for the large reds, how-ever as always said shot placement is the key,

 

if you thinking of going down this route get yourself a 243 and trade in the .223, you still have a dual purpose round in the .243,
