Accuracy of .17HMR 17g Varmint express

After having my FAC and CZ452 for a few months now i'm really getting used to it and loving the rifle.

Having zero'd my scope in at an advised 100yds, put 100 rounds through it and magaged to get groups of 2.5'' at 150yds it was time for a little ''getting used to'' time!

 

managed to pick off many pigeons on the fields at between 30yds - 150yds,

 

getting between 5-20 rabbits a night lamping.

 

and then, a moment i'll never forget, the exact spot i use for placing my targets, a squirrel started digging a hole (his own grave i think...!)

so without a thought i placed my rifle on the rest, ranged what i thought was 150yds and crack. one dead squirrel. Was aiming for the head, but just as i pulled the trigger, it stuck it's head up, so centre of chest it was.

 

I still had my meter measure in the boot so i got it out and started walking towards it, 188meters!!! (make it 204 yards'ish)

 

Goes to show the long range abilities of the .17 hmr rounds. gob-smacking. (well i thought so)

 

 

Also at 150 yds the impact from the 17g polymer tipped hornady rounds is amazing, red bull can full of water!

i bought a new american cz 17hmr today and hope to give her a spin out tonight only ammo he had was full metal jacket 20 gr . wanted one for ages had a slot so got one while i was getting shotti carts for the xmass holiday.

those .17 seem to be the mutts nuts thats my next buy after the newyear got sum foxes and rabbits to take care of

they seem to be a good choice, great for new shooters aswell as long time FAC shooters.

 

 

would need to seek advice regarding fox shooting as not sure if the hmr is up for them...?

ive had a fox with hmr but keep the range down and only in the head imo.

side on between the eye and the ear. and the other thing to do is make sure you try it out on some targets 1st as there isnt any room for error like there is with centrefire. where you can go for a engine room shot

I have .22LR, .17HMR and .22WMR.........................(they are tools of my trade and ALL have a use)

 

Before you get too excited about the HMR did you consider the .22WMR..it's very good for foxes too and the ammo is a tad cheaper than HMR!

 

...just me off again on my crusade...but I promise if you use one you will love it!!!

yep bought 400 17gr 17hmr yesterday £98.06p ? bit different to the 22lr £5 for 50 my 222 50gr £1 a shot exspensive game
