just got my new pup incoulated and the vet told me that he has a slight heart murmer. she told me that there is a 99% chance that it will go away. she also said that lots of puppies have it? has anyone else had this problem?
i had the same said by a vet about a terrier pup when i got it jabd ,2 years later the vet recomende a course of tabs[ after i took the dog in because it was a bit down ] ,that were costing 14 pound a month ,the dog was very quiet after every tab ,this went on for 2 years ,untill i stoped giveing the tabs ,the dog lived untill 7 months ago and was 14 years old ,draw your own conclusions . Heart murmurs are usually graded as to their severity. Basically, in simple terms, there is probably a little back flow of blood through one of the heart valves that the vet feels will sort itself out as the pup grows. Once it is fully grown get them to recheck.

Good luck s.

I know it's difficult but try not to worry about it, my pup was diagnosed on her first visit to the vets as having a slight heart murmor, and i left feeling really gutted. So i did alot of research, even talking to a friend who is a midwife about murmors in babies! It is common in baby animals, as the heart seperates into 2 halves, during the process of being born. In some it just takes a few weeks after birth for the process to complete properly. Also on the net i found the opinion that some newly qualified vets would diagnose a heart murmor, because in an alround healthy pup they would feel that they have to find something wrong to prove their competance, so any slight noise that an experienced vet wouldn't bother mentioning becomes a scary heart murmor. Any way by 12 weeks, they said that the murmor in my pup had gone!

can onoy echo this post....over the years i have discovered that new young vets nearly always diagnose a heart murmur....maybe your vets not one of these but if so,...get a 2nd opinion!!! Incidentally they normally grow out of it so really dont worry.

I totally agree with farlap. When i took my lurcher to the vet for its first jab i was told she had a heart murmour, but when i took her back for her second jab a week later she was seen by another vet and she said she was fine.So always get a second opinion some vets will try it on just so they can get you to buy masses of expensive tablets. Not all vets i must point out are like this but they are out there.

Mine had one/has one, my proper vet (not the one who diagnosed the murmur) just shook her head after testing my bitch and said, its common and wont affect the dogs ability to work or its general well being, lol. I love that vet of mine :clapper::D:icon_redface:
