Now I go out most nights with a pal, whos alot older than me.......he comes along for the craic, and has done a bit in his time, but never seriously into running dogs.....anyhow when I gave him a knock the other night,...and he appeared with his geriatric fat old lab......his misses had been playing up about all the time he'd been spending out with my dogs...and leaving his old pet at home.

Mildly disapointed we set off........after a few runs mine ran like a spanner.....and missed a couple..... third field was a nice one 200 yards was a good un site tight..... definately a 'dead un' excitedly I was just about to quick step up, when Graham siad...lets have a crack.

I replied on the lines of " you got more chance of crapping ion the queens hand bag".....but again midly disappointed that I'd missed out on a good run...I eagerly watched as he made his way up with the old gal at heel.

:icon_eek:

we know what happens next dont we :icon_redface::icon_redface::icon_redface::icon_redface:

the scutt lifted.....and started to acellerate...the old bitch gave chase....like fecking lightening.....50 yards wollap..it struck....nailed it, and brought it straight back to hand.......................

:icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_eek:

needless to say I was shown up....and felt like an absolute dick...Graham..quite rightly........ gloated all the way home.

I know I'll never live it down!!!!!!!! :tongue2: LOL LOL............but fair play....he kippered me good and proper!!!!!!

i have seen this happen myself.i old bloke came out with a mate of mine(who happens to have "the fastest dog in the world" you know the type) just so he could have a look how it was done(the mate had been a bit loud in the pub the last few weeks)

by his side was a leggy lab with slighty broken coat but in no way running dog looking. well he watched a few runs then as the mate was checking the dogs feet he said he would "try the mutt" just for a laugh!!! i had the feeling from the look in his eye somthing was up and sure enough the dog was amazing!! fast as fu#k and was always in the right place!!

had a chat with him and he said its a old family breed dog reckons it goes back five human generations and has been breed to work with the gun and be able to run,he used to take it goose shooting in his younger days!!

you just never know !! i suppose theres a lot to be said somtimes for owning a lurcher that dont look like one?

I ran my labs in a simulated corse. The gundog gentry were horrified that i was risking 'unsteadying' my labs and the lurcher lads were a bit suprised how well they did! People often think that labs are big lumps that bumble around when actually a well bred lab has alot more to offer in the feild than people think. Ill be running them in the heart of wales again this year, its a good crack, i never expect them to win but they can put a few lurchers to shame! lol
