Brimmer 220
After Saturdays bismal performance, I bullied the old feller into actually walking for once! (should'nt do it really he 70 yr old) but really needed to get on fresh ground rather than clearing odd's and ends up. The snow had gone (at last) and also looked a decent day, so we hit the ground as high as we go on our land! The top of the hill is where we were going, this is halfway up! Took only one of the young dogs, 3 ferrets, our dinner, and 'A LONGNET' nooooooooo! Took us a while to walk up there, had to keep stopping for the old feller, who found every excuse in the book to stop, usually the dog is marking there (which it was), this saw us not arrive at our chosen spot till 11am, with 6 rabbits taken from setting the devil net! The devil net only caught around three rabbits to be honest, it was set three times, at which point packed away, probably for the rest of the season, and got down to what we do best, killing machine ferrets, and the trusty blade! Things moved a lot swifter then, the dog catching anything that bolted, and the ferrets nailing most rabbits, and quickly tore out of the ground. This is ferreting for me. Had around 20 digs today, a few toughies, but nothing serious! Weather started coming in around 3pm, heavy mist, and the walk of a mile and a half back with a pile of rabbits made us realise that another day was needed up there. It was a hard slog back for us to be honest, I carried all the bunnies, whilst the old chap carried the ferrets, then he helped me out with the nets halfway down, he looked fooked to be honest, so I carried on swapping shoulders again every 100 yrds, finally we got back to the truck. Guess I was the least tired at the end of the day! 31 rabbits carried off on one strap ungutted. It's a long road, wish the old feller was a bit younger, we could have done better today, but not bad really! Edited December 22, 2008 by Brimmer Quote Link to post
ferret boy charlie 0
nice one mate if you ever want to get rid of that longnet ......... Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
Can't do that Charlie lad, not even paid the old feller for it yet! Naw the devil net is worth it's weight in gold when there are a few bunnies around, it is always worth hanging on to. It's just when there is only a few around, it becomes a burden setting and taking it down, just for the critters to nail everything underground! Quote Link to post
