whippet v small lurchers

Recommended Posts

Exceptions to every rule ,but the answer must be ,why arnt we all running pure whippets.

Why aren't we all running 30" Deerhound X's or 18" Beddy X's ? The answer must be we all have different needs in a dog; run different types of quarry, etc.

Cheers.

i agree ,but most use a x rather than a pure breed ,so it must be that the x makes a better dog what ever your chosen quarry ,i run a 20 inch coursing whip x beddy ,and it does every thing i ask of it ,but i know that a pure whip would not be able to do the same , it might attempt to but it would not last long ,

'it might attempt to but it would not last long' :clapper: ya reckon.

Look, this is a silly discussion, why had the old boys bred lurchers? Cause 3-4 yrs later they were still going, and doing SERIOUS graft.

If whippets had the brain, stamina, durability of a collie, why does every hill farmer choose a collie to bring his sheep in every time? Why not use a whippet?

A whippet can show a lurcher a few tricks, but it's only short term, and i like whippets!

You're right !!! A whippet can't round up sheep; it also isn't much use as a police dog, can't pull a wild boar, rescue people from avalanches, fight a pit bull, in fact theres loads of things a whippet can't do !! Why on earth are they still bred ??? LOL !!!

Cheers.

20 inch coursing whippet cross beddie, is this the size of your dog and if so what do you do with your 20 inch cross that is above the law.. I cant see it being a competent hare courser or a 100% fox killer so that just leaves rabbits..? and er rats........

yep and i know what your going to say [yes i will still use the same excuse if i do get caught ,that is why i got it because of the law change ]but the pur whipp would not be up to what this x can do ,night after night ,take my word for it ,that makes the point of is a whipp as good as a x ,not in my eyes.

crossing a whippet with a bedlington is like buying a ferari and putting an escort engine

in it you get more miles to the gallon but lose all the performance theres nothing at 20tts

that can touch a good whippet fact :drink:

have a read of what i added to my last post and i think you will find that in this case the engin does not loose that mutch performance .like i have said in other posts [it all depends on whether you use just any old dogs to breed with or get the best .that makes the diff ] Edited by MY LAW

and by getting more miles to the gallon is the same as getting more to carry home at the end of the night or week ,instead of just a couple in a quick time .[THATS THE DIFFERENCE]fact.

Just out of a matter of interest, how many pure whippets are in the lamping comp?

This is the best chance of a proving if ever I saw one, A few hours in the lamp?

I am sure an exceptional dog will be the winner in this comp.

Is your dog in the lamping comp ??. I am sure a pure whippet will never be the winner of a lamping comp with lurchers of greyhound breeding but maybe in a comp with dogs of similar size and weight.. if your dog is suited to the work you give it then fairplay to ya.. thats what counts................ :victory:
