paddybarr 77
20 inch coursing whippet cross beddie, is this the size of your dog and if so what do you do with your 20 inch cross that is above the law.. I cant see it being a competent hare courser or a 100% fox killer so that just leaves rabbits..? and er rats........it dont course hares because im not interested in them ,but the rest of above and more ,but i wont ever prove it to you im afraid. crossing a whippet with a bedlington is like buying a ferari and putting an escort engine in it you get more miles to the gallon but lose all the performance theres nothing at 20tts that can touch a good whippet fact bollocks, there are more beddlington whippets about than there are any other whippetx. \ your right, but why? like the guys says their as slow as aweek and bring little else to the party Edited December 22, 2008 by paddybarr Quote Link to post

Brimmer 220
Just out of a matter of interest, how many pure whippets are in the lamping comp? This is the best chance of a proving if ever I saw one, A few hours in the lamp? I am sure an exceptional dog will be the winner in this comp. Is your dog in the lamping comp ??. I am sure a pure whippet will never be the winner of a lamping comp with lurchers of greyhound breeding but maybe in a comp with dogs of similar size and weight.. if your dog is suited to the work you give it then fairplay to ya.. thats what counts................ Why would either of them be in the lamping comp, I don't lamp? I spend all day out in the hills working my dogs. 8-9 hrs a day, 2-3 days a week, sept till feb. lamping suits a straight whippet better than any other type of work, if it cannot hold its own here then where does it stand? Size for size a x stands the work I do better to be honest. Allthough I'm missing the point, everybody does different types of work, and yes I have seen whippets outrun many dogs in the lamp, usually 3hr sessions, running from slips. This sort of work they hold there own. Edited December 23, 2008 by Brimmer Quote Link to post

victor 10
would you call a whippet x grey a small lurcher?? i would. and what ive seen in real life compared to my whipxgrey is instint. i know alot of you peopel have dynomight whippets and i mean no offence. but a bloke i meet whilst walking my dog, we went on a ferret trip for a little while. my dog was hunting with his nose and finding the rabbits in the grass, while hios was just running threw the long grass and not evan taking notice of the rabbits darting out the side of the reads. mine was but yeah. ive only seen one pure whippet work.. bill88 6
Why do these threads always degenerate into a slanging match ? Chartpolski summed it up perfectly its "horses for courses" If i wanted a small dog for out and out speed id get a good whippet out of coursing/working lines. What i wanted was a small dog that would be an allrounder/moocher thats why i got a beddyxwhip. Now before anyone starts im in no way knocking whippets,i love the breed and have seen many good pure whippets, but i refuse to believe that a pure whippet makes a better all rounder, why else would they ever have outcrossed the breed ? My wee bitch is an exceptional ferreting dog, takes a good few on the lamp, has a nose like a hound and marks 100% every time, will work cover as well as any terrier, has great feet and coat and although she is very timid she's fearless when out working. If i used a whippet to ferret some of the places i go it would be ripped to bits by now.JMHO as always. Quote Link to post
