trapper25 0
i have just been asked by the farmer on my permission if i could do anything about the moles on his land, after explaining i know nothing about mole trapping he said "well feel free to have a go" so i thought id give it a go! so any tips welcome, what traps would be the best or easiest for a novice? cheers t25 Quote Link to post
Fidgety 8
Are you sure you want to do it? It could eat into your hunting time! I considered this on one of my permissions and decided that i would be spending most of my weekend doing moles, leaving little time for anything else! Quote Link to post
stubby 175
but it goes a long way with landowners, if you try to help, do a search on here, you'll find plenty of topics on moles, may not make you the greatest molecatcher on earth, but being helpfull goes a longway, and it may secure you extra permissions via word of mouth Quote Link to post
trappa 518
A good tip for you or anyone else would be being honest and explaining that your a moling novice and your willing to give it a go. Dont try bull**itting him and saying your a pro, he will appreciate your honesty. Quote Link to post
stephen58 1
A good comment & reply Trapper , right T25 get your hands in your pocket & pm Moley on this forum & see if he has got any of his video,s left , and only buy the British made traps ( try the Flatpackcompany . co.uk ) that,s where I buy my traps from , secondly you will need a probe/dibber (try warrenfarm.co.uk ) and when the rain is running down your back and soaking your under~pants and if you ask your self ,what the hell am I,m doing here? then mole trapping isn,t for you !! it,s a long hard road with a slow learning curve every job is different , almost forgot you will need a good spade !! hope this has been of some help to you , merry xmas to you , and all members of THL , best regards to all , Steve Quote Link to post

Don't let anyone tell you that molecatching is some black art that requires wierd initiation rites or selling your soul to Beezulbub. Watch the video, read a book (free from any library),ask questions and think carefully about the way you set your' traps.Remember you are trying to fool a wild animal on its own ground and kill it cleanly. Have confidence. i caught my first mole after i came across a trap in an old farm-building and without the supposedly essential guiding hand of some ancient and gnarled old Molecatcher I dared to think to myself ,"Hm, I'm going to try to catch a mole ",and I did,the very next day .I still have it's badly stuffed body over 20 years later. Catching moles can be frustrating to but there are plenty of easy ones to give you confidence as a beginer.A lot of the "mystery" dissappears with your first catch...Then the learning curve really begins. Good luck Quote Link to post
IanB 0
One word of advice, its too easy to go catching moles for favours... you must remember your time is valuable, as is everyones... I wouldn't class catching moles as fun, although its certainly time consuming.... charge them , Quote Link to post
